Default Classic Flash turbine selection.

I have a classic Flash that needs a turbine. What turbine do you guys recommend? I fly from a sod farm(very thick and restrictive grass) which could make takeoffs a real challenge.I have a Merline 100(22 LBS) that could be used or should I consider using a more powerfull turbine?

120sx is best turbine IMO. Had a 160 and got 7min flights. Got tired of that so I put my 120sx and now I'm getting 9min flights. Still has great power and is insanely fast. Definitely wouldn't put a 100 in if you will be flying off grass. Hope that helps

I agree with txshan, don't use a 100. I had a Classic flash with a Jetcat Titan and it was great power. Now I have an Ultra flash with a new Merlin 140x. Amazing engine. I would go with the old 120 size or 140N. You will not regret it.

I have flown my classic flash with both a Rabbit and a Cheetah. The plane was around 22 lbs dry and the Rabbit flew it just fine. The Cheetah obviously flew it faster but it added weight and made it harder to land as it didn't slow down as well. Both had plenty of take off authority with 100 ft launches possible. If you are not sure I would advise the 140 class turbine as it has more applications. Also be sure you have trailing link gear if flying off of grass -- makes life with the Flash much more pleasant

I flew my classic Flash with the original Gas Start Rabbit (19 LBS) of thrust, it flew great!
I fly off of a runway so I can't tell you the take off performance on grass.

I then switched to a Cheetah (32 Lbs).... It fly's fast and grass would not be an issue.

With the Cheetah I rarely go above 1/2 throttle.

I fly my CF with a Rabbit 100 off grass regularly. It still has a better than 1;1 thrust to weight ratio! You can expect top speed of about 180mph.

I vote Merlin 140x. In my opinion, best engine in its class in the current market.

Curious, what makes it the best in it's class?

This post is timely. I was just thinking that if anything happens to my UF I honestly believe I'd find a nice used classic to replace it. And the engine I'd put in it?

Kingtech 140.

The K140 are underrated. I test all my turbines on a test stand and the Kingtech 140 only has a thrust loss of about 12% at 7400 ft most other brands including Jet Cat the loss is about 20%
