I spent many days responding to troop in contact missions in Afghanistan I worked with a-10s in very close proximity on most missions. Always a pleasure to deal with and they had no problem with us being in the stack doing gun runs. good times.

Yeah I wish it was easier to get flights approved to take people flying I would love to take you up and show you what one will do. The last engagement I had before coming home we were swapping runs with these guys, fun to roll out of a gun run with an a10 firing as your turning out bound. Never have to worry about get shot in tail lol.

Nice video....particularly those in-cockpit gun firing shots. It's always hard to describe what it's like shooting that 30mm gun! I wish we'd had GoPro's back in my day.

Seems like just yesterday doesn't it? And that "vintage" Warthog, no RWR antennas, no Pave Penny pylon, and avionics? Nope....singular tense, as in "Avionic"....Tacan only, and a paper low level map "LATN". Good stuff.

So true Mike....none of that fancy stuff for us back then. Here's me along side another "vintage" jet, a Royal Netherlands F-5 during an airshow in Holland in 1977.

Makes me proud to see such an awesome fighting machine and brings me back to the days when I used to walk along the assembly line at Fairchild Republic in Farmingdale, NY.

Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. We were the first unit (333rd TAC Fighter Squadron) to get the Warthog and we did a lot of domestic and international demos in those early years, introducing the jet.

I remember seeing the A-10 during the base airshows as a kid in the 80s. I was more mezermized by the Warthog demo than the Thunderbirds. Are you flying a Mibo A-10 now?

Yes, I'm into my 7th flying season with my Gen 3. Great airplane and other than having a little better power-to-weight advantage than the original, I like to fly it similar to those demos you saw.

Beautiful A-10! The weathering looks fantastic! I like to fly similar to the demos as well. Hopefully my second SM A-10 lasts longer than the first. If not, I'll be getting a Mibo next.
