Default Viton Tubing

I use diesel on my Rhino and i just sent it in for it's 25 hour maintenance checkup. I plan on removing the klunk lines from the tanks which have tygon tubing at present. I've been using viton on my gassers for 5 years now and have not had to change them yet due to viton getting hard. Iv'e researched online about viton and everything iv'e read says it is impervious to oil and gas. Has anyone had real world experience using viton in their tanks running diesel? Thanks for any info with your experience on this

I have been using Viton fuel lines in my jet tanks for 3 years now and I have not had any problems.
I put a piece of viton in kero and let it soak for over 3 months and it looked the same as when I put it in .

I have been wanting to switch over from tygon for awhile since it gets stiff, but I cannot find viton in larger diameters to fit my hi-flow setups. Do you happen to have a place that has different diameters?

We get out Viton from McMaster Carr. We use the large size Viton for our Hi-Flow fittings too.

Melvin,

I've been designing and developing automotive fuel systems for years. We use Viton for seals and hoses inside gas tanks because it will last indefinitely in gasoline, kerosene or diesel. You won't find anything better. Make sure you safety wire everything!

Well i just realized that the only viton i have is 1/8 i.d. so i just ordered some 3/16 and 1/4 id from McMasterCarr so i should be good to go! Fenderbean they have all different size's at McMasterCarr. The easiest way to find it on their website is to type in Viton in their search box and you will be taken to the right page. I allways use the soft viton

I purchased 1/4"OD 1/8" ID Viton from Mc Master Carr 3 times for myself and a few friends. The first and third time the tubing was slightly oversized. The oversized stuff I have in the tank my 1/4 scale Panther. It feeds diesel to the K-170 with no problem. It has been in there for three seasons and is still like new. The oversize is very slight. You might be able to see it in the picture.

Joe, whats the stock number for the clear viton at McMasters. All I can find is the black Viton tubing.

Thanks,
Keith

What size turbine are you using the 1/8 id tubing on? I'm kinda worried about using the 1/8 on my Rhino. I think it might possibly starve the turbine of fuel. i don't think i could get the 1/8 tubing on the barbed tank lines either. Thats why i ordered the 3/16 and 1/4 id tubing. If the new tubing that i have coming is too big on the fittings i might have to use the 1/8 id Viton

The Viton I have is black ( on the ruler). The clear tube in the picture is a 1/8" OD tube that I was slipping the two different sizes of Viton over to feel the difference in size. The smaller size I need to push on with some friction while the slightly larger size slips on easily with a little friction.

The Kingtech K 170 burns 19 oz. a minute at full tilt. It seems to pull through the 1/8 ID Viton it the tank with no problem. When I pump the fuel into the plane to fuel the tank it is going through the same tubing at a faster rate than 19 oz. a minute. I don't think it takes 11 minutes to pump 200 ozs. on board

There is one fuel line for gas, kero and diesel that works just as well as viton but costs 1/5 what viton costs. The line is just as bullet proof, just as flexible long term inside or outside a tank and actually much more abrasion resistant and stronger in tensile testing (which doesn't matter in reality since lines are usually not in tension). If interested, contact me direct to my address in my signature. I carry 1/8" ID for gas engines but all sizes available on request.

Viton sounds like some good tubing but they sure are proud of it

Yes I agree with you that initially it's expensive upfront but in the end i think it pays for itself! I was replacing the tygon in my gasses every 4 months due to it getting hard but since iv'e switched to viton it's been 5 years. It's nice not having to worry about it getting hard anymore!

Hey Matt,

I am also curious as to the name of the tubing that is just as good as Viton. I am very happy with the Viton but it is very expensive.

wonder if he referring to clear tygothane c-210. Good stuff, just stay away from the thin walled 1/32, kinks way to easy. ask me how I know!
