Default Flying in the desert, avoiding sand FOD?

I was wondering what steps pilots take to avoid having their turbines ingest sand when flying in desert areas, like Nevada? The standard FOD screen won't do much to guard against fine particles.

The reason I ask is there are a couple very large open, deserted areas nearby, but they're covered in a coarse sand.

I have access to light weight high quality 100% silk fabric that has excellent breathability; similar to what stockings used to be made out of before switching to nylon. I was thinking of securing this over the stock FOD screen as a sort of air filter. Bad idea?
