Default What's the poop ?? --- " The new FEJ "

Don't want to start a " Patty " storm, but has anyone taken the plunge on the " New " Hawk from FEJ ? I really like the size and the Honda scheme, but wondering if anyone knows anything about what has happened in the last year with their products and reputation. Basically, is it all still junk and unsafe to fly, or have they cleaned up their act and producing viable kits ? One of these was auctioned at JOK, but I don't know who got it and if has been built and flown. Just wondering...

Dan,

I saw one of those earlier this year at a flyin in June. As always, it looked good, but I'm not sure about the structure. They have gone away from the honeycomb, but now they are using foam core. From what I saw in the wing though, almost everything was foam core - the ribs, the spars, the servo boxes, etc. I didn't look in the fuselage to see if the formers were foam core or plywood.

The bottom line to me is that they still don't appear to know what they are doing and are "experimenting" with techniques and materials that they see other companies using, without in-depth knowledge of how they should be applied.

Show me the factory flying 1 of every model they have constantly at every event and then the last day of the event, cut open every closed surface infront of all in attendance.

If the structure, materials, workmanship and quality is the same between them all for an entire year, then maybe they would be worth spending money on.

but that'll never happen because its not cost effective, neither is sending them money for an unknown product either.

Can anyone tell me why my post was removed. I guess I'm not allowed to say something is a turd.

These guys have put out many aircraft with known issues and did not stand behind their product but were always willing to take peoples money. I would not do bussiness with a company with a reputation like that.

I don't have a Hawk. But recently received one of their Sport jets. Nir was my contact person who was very professional and kept me very informed. I received the jet with in a week of the promised delivery date. Came undamaged with only minor issues with the clear coat. As a long time A&P mechanic, I rate the structure as good with this example. Cheers !

Like Gomer Pyle once said..."Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"......Looking at the history of this company and the results of their previous exploits should speak for itself.

PRICE PRICE PRICE is the answer. The old you get what you pay for is so very true here. I saw one of the FEJ Honda Hawks close up. Nice paint but the owner felt that he had to strengthen the fuse and other parts of the airframe with carbon fiber on the inside to make the plane up to his standards. I get it, there improving but figure out what your total investment is when your done and ask yourself do you feel lucky today? Or spend a little more and get a Skygate or some other well proven plane and have piece of mind that your investment is safer with a company that has a better track record.

Besides the possible safety risk, & being banned from at least 2 events that I've heard of. I have trouble spending on things I don't think I could eventually sell. I think it'd be hard to move high-end FEJ stuff in the market place once you wanted to move on..imo

Alternative, Skymaster Hawk. 1:3.5. No wing blow up, no elevator separation in flight!

So true!

After the history of that company? Why would anyone even think of it? It's just a paint job on paper mache.

I'd rather send my money to the King of Nigeria, Sir John F. Kennedy, who sends spam emails complete with typos where he is claiming he is also the senior settlment adjister for the U.S. Bank of Commerse where your Uncle Sally died and left you $15,618,016.45 in US dolars, and all you have to do is send him all your personal information and wire $3854.16 asap for prosessing the docummentaion asap so you can accept an official bank check in your name.

Mario,
Ask the pilot of the Honda Hawk how well it flew after the canopy hinged sideways on takeoff at the New England Jet Rally last weekend. I was next in line to takeoff and had to return to the startup area while they cleaned up the mess.

Art in all fairness the canopy opening up was an oversight by the pilot, not the fault of the plane.
