Default Let's talk Turbine reliability....

Question,

Aside from cosmetics what is the difference between a factory rebuilt turbine with zero time with full factory warranty and a brand spanking new one?

Does it really make a difference… Especially when you can save a few hundred dollars?

The only thing bothering me is the fact that it's going in a brand new jet and the reliability factor is messing with my mind....

If the factory involved is AMT Netherlands, you can have 100% confidence in the AMT turbine.

Jan, I thought you like our engines...., lol

Well, I'm the first to admit in recent months we've had quite a number of issues with our engines, from fuel pump, to temperature probe and some others. Good things is that we have all of these issues sorted out with upgrades, and we are constantly looking hard into any potential problem that may arise.

Cheers,
Barry

The vast majority of reliability issues don't involve the turbine at all, they involve the accessories. I doubt there is any useful difference between a new and a zero-time engine as far as reliability is concerned. My $.02

Barry,

I do like Kingtech, but I have not yet used as many or for as long as I have used AMT Netherlands turbines. My AMT experience goes back since 1997 and during that time Bennie and his turbines have never let me down.

As long as Kingtech continue to do the right thing by it's customers, you will earn the loyalty as Bennie and AMT Netherlands has done.

Cheers,

Jan

I don't see any differences in either rebuild or new. I have a 180g that was my first new one back 2 years ago that I pancaked in a f-18. Didn't send it back (wrong move) and on the 5th flight it spit the rear blades out of it. Dirk rebuilt and I flew it in a couple of different airframes and now it's in my Skygate Hawk and is racking up flights. I have about 30+ in the hawk and it is flawless. Hoping to upgrade to a 210g over the winter.

I have had a full crash and a 25 hour Kingtech turbine along with the one I described above serviced and I feel like once it's factory overhauled, balanced and tested there really is not any differences.

I can't speak about overhauled turbines but I have bought three used turbines right here from RCU and they all have been great! One RAM and two Jetcats maybe just lucky but I wouldn't be afraid of buying a used or factory rebuilt from anyone with decent ratings.

I would think that any manufacturer would never release an engine unless it was in perfect running condition. They have a reputation to keep.

So if you can save money.. Go for it. Especially if that add reads "just back from service" with paper to prove

Thanks for keeping it all Positive guys. That's the kind of feedback I was looking for....

I agree that a manufacturer would never send something out not flight ready.... I'm confident in the professionalism to date!

I've had the most experience with used engines from JetCat. And let me tell you, they have all been impeccable when they have come back fresh from the factory. I would never hesitate to buy a used engine with a fresh service.

As I have yet to buy a used engine from other manufactures, I cannot comment. And as far as new is concerned, the only other manufactures I can comment on are Kingtech and BF turbines. Ofcourse all my new JetCats have been great as well.

And as can be expected, they have been flawless so far. And you can't beat the active posting of Barry and Oli.

And if you go to jet meets, you'll have a hard time keeping up with the number of flights Barry makes with his Kingtechs!

I have seen bearings go bad. Injectors and combustion chambers as well. Also, distortion of EGV rings.

All of these are 100% addressed after replacement, so I am not sure what other things just go bad from use.

What are the most number of hours folks have put on an engine and are still running strong.?

I have heard of people with hundreds of hours without bearing changes. Which sounds spectacularly unbelievable.

Exactly! It's probably more like hundreds of flights.

But I have heard 50 hours was common in the past.

Thanks Rav and Jan, as with our refurbished engines, they will have the latest upgrades and always carry the same warranty.

Regards,
Barry
