Default Jeti expander and mvario

I have a turbine powered glider with Jeti rx and a Xicoy FCL . I wanted to add a vario so we could tell when the glider was thermalling. The rx has only one out port and reading the info it appeared I could have multiple sensors by adding an expander 4.

I just cannot figure out how to get it to read the sensors. The Vario works on its own as does the Xicoy unit, but I cannot get either to see though the expander. The manual is not much help.

I am using a Jeti box and have tried plugging the expander into the jeti profi box but again no sucess.

If anyone has mastered how to set up the vario with a sound signal when rising and falling that would also be appreciated. Again I cannot fligure out how to do this.

John,

You might have seen from the other thread that I am having the same problem with the Mbar. The advice from Gaspar was that the sensor set up is like a tree, the sensors plugged into the expanded need to be accessed via the expander. As far as I can understand, that means you should find a menu item in your Mvario that steps down the hierarchy to the Xicoy sensor.

My experience with the Mbar sensor is that this doesn't work. I'm not sure how the profi box works but I am still getting telemetry info from the Xicoy sensor, it's just that the Jetibox functions don't work.

I don't have any other genuine Jeti sensors to try but will be getting one soon. Hopefully this will highlight whether it is an issue with Jeti or the Xicoy sensor.

I'm at work at the moment so haven't got access to it to check, but iirc the Expander E4 is not an EX bus device, it's an older Ex device so it works one way but not two way, therefore in the transmitter's device explorer you can't see the devices attached to the expander because it won't allow you to alter their settings. I remember having problems trying to use the Expander E4, it may that you need to change the data type on the jetibox input, I have a vague memory of having to change the data type at the CB200 Ext port for the sensor data to appear at the Tx.

I have a vario working nicely as you wish with rising and falling tones and a deadband to keep quiet at the glider's natural sink rate, I may get a chance later this week to copy the settings for you if someone else doesn't beat me to it!

You have to plug in the Xicoy to the MVario2 and setup Telemetry IN via Device Explorer in Mvario2.
MVario2 is EX Bus device, needs to go first to the EXT port.

if you have retract you can use Mvario2 also setup automatic Gear DOWN and UP. Model reaches 10m Gear UP, and gear lockdown if model is on the ground.
Look under Telemetry Functions.

Thanks for that, the Xicoy input immedialty worked on the Jeti Profi box as well as the Vario. It was far from clear in the instructions and annoying to buy the Expander 4 unnecessarily.

I now need to set the vario tones, when you have the time Harry.

Well I just stumbled on the way to set the Vario tones on. Using the Jeti Profi box you have to go to the bottom line of the display and go to Tx enter and you get tx with arrow. Arrow sideways and you get Rx. Then arrow down and you get mvariom2 menu this enables all the Vario functions to be set up. I fitted a long lead on the sensor and moving it up and down enabled me to hear the beeps.

This way of using the Profi box also enables access to the Xicoy menu but I think only if it is the first in the chain.

None of this is mentioned in the instructions that I could find

I doubt my vario settings will work for you John, it sounds like you have a jeti module in a different brand tx and so you do your programming with jetibox? I use a DS-16 tx and make my settings through device explorer which is a very different menu.

Harry

Yes I am using Futaba, but it could be any make as the telemetry is entirely separate from the plane Rx. I wanted to test it all out on a reasonably low value plane first before installing in a large model.

Yes the programming is all done via the Jeti Profi box. I am happy to have the sound beeps working now.
