Default Rapid Prototyped Jet Engine

Thought you guys might like to see this, other than the cost of doing it this way it sure was fairly easy to finish machining and assemble.

I'll make you a deal, If you fly to California I will run it for you if it does not run I will give you $50000 in cash, US dollars, if it does run you give me $50000
This will give you a nice vacation here and probably still leave you with 45k USD if it does not run, which is what your saying, you can book the flight anytime I am always around.
When can I expect you?

Hi,
Sorry about that. There is so many fake stuff around I jumped to a conclusion. I am actually familiar with your work, should have had the penny drop...
In fact I am very interested in this very tech. I do a lot of student training and we always have a battle making Inconel proto's. So I would very much like to hear the end result of your test. We have had a NGV printed but we hesitated on the turbine wheel.

Nice! A few years ago we especulated about this stuff. Now it is turning into practical reality.

I been doing my homework too... flying a 3d printed model for a while, and as far as I know this is the first one in latin america.. :-) flies great. Guess that as soon I have a little more time, I will do a turbine model with this technique.

I do a lot of Additive Mfg parts. My latest was a tail cone for a T64 turbine engine (yes a flyable engine), with a 1200F EGT. I used powdered 6-4Ti for that one due to the higher temp allowables. It is very weldable as well.

Where these really suck is at fatigue. They behave like a casting, but still very strong. I take it yours was probably EBM?
I assume you only did the turbine casing, front end and tailcone, correct? I could not envision using AM for the turbine/compressor, or anything internal for that matter. Just thinking the amount of post process required to smooth out the surfaces for them to be flyable.

I am now experimenting with Aluminum parts. There are very limited applications for the time being, but the technology keeps expanding.

Cheers on your project!

How much certification testing have you done?

THIS is an example for the guy that started the thread about all the Experts not posting, for those not familiar with Pegasus, look up his miniature turbine and his Harrier prototype turbine and you will be amazed with his work.

That is some great work. I wonder what the updates are with these projects? I've been watching the Harrier one for years.

This is the way we make metalparts in the future, I think there is a big market for this technics, Laser and EBM in the future (Electron Beam Melting) as that we at Arcam work with.
By the way, really nice looking engine. Very fun to see someone to make something REALLY important with AM technics
