Default Powerbox and DSM2/DSMX

Me again... And confused. The Powerbox ( Mercury ) Manual says this:

-" Spektrum DSM2 and DSMX
If you have a Spektrum system you simply plug in three or four satellites,
and all eighteen channels are available - without the need for an X-Plus
module."

My question is, Do I use DSM2 satillites or DSMX satillites, and how does it know, and what protocol do I get ?? Do the satillites determine if I am flying DSM2 or DSMX ??

Kinda reminds me about the guy asking abouut the Thermos keeping hot things hot, or cold things cold... How do it know ???

Satellite type will determine the protocol provided you have a DSMX capable tx. So if your tx can do DSMX but you use DSM2 satellites, the system will run in DSM2. If you use DSMX, it will run in DSMX mode.

I'd use four satellites as that's what the big PowerSafe rx's use.

Dan-o I know on my powerbox cockpit I select DSMX or DSM2 in the tx/rx function, heres a copy of that section from my manual..

However after reading the manual on yours, I see it is a totally different beast,, it sounds like you still have to select which band you want, but the receiver does the rest,, I see the point of your question now, the manual is not very clear on that part,,

Hi

If your TX is old and only has DSM2, then your satellites must be DSM2 capable.

Not necessarily - you can run DSMX satellites with DSM2 Tx , Rx will see DSM2 protocol , you must run all the same sat's , DSM2 & DSMX mixed will not work

Got it !! Thanks all. If you run DSM2 sat's you have DSM2 protocol, If you run DSMX sat's you have DSMX protocol... Transmiiter sends both, Powerbox reciever decides based on satellites.. Spektrum recievers are sold as DSMX or DSM2. ( which I don't think they even sell DSM2 recievers anymore ) ....

Thanks again !!
Dan
