HSD MB339 review anyone???

Speeds
i was looking for the average weight speeds. These will not change depending on setup. It depends on wing type, airfoil, and size but was referring to the HSD/Boomerang. Was hoping someone has completed some testing with different (dirty, clean) configurations. Kind of like the V speed list in my 69’ Piper Cherokee.

We offer this product as a dealer. We fully tested a demo model as well as offer several instructional videos detailing construction and assembly. Very pleased with the quality and flying character of the model. It will land slowly and flies quite stable. About 19.5lbs dry, would fly well with 80-100n. 120n will allow it to accelerate while vertically. 2000cc fuel tank on an 80-90n will allow for long flights.

After more than a year of having this MB 399 in my hangar, i finally put it together last week and pleased to say that I have maidened it last Saturday. I had 3 successful flights. The MB 339 flew as if it was on rails, nice precise controls made flights flawless. Landings were done with TO flaps due to sustained head wind. 1st flight i flew without the external tanks and the 2 others I had them on. I only needed a couple of clicks of up elevator and some left ailerons I guess (nothing major…)
It is good to note that I completed the kit as is, no mods whatsoever, I didn’t even change the computer type connectors but made sure to secure them with silicone (for the fixed ones in fuse) and tie wrapped the wing connectors for peace of mind. I did not use expo, and had controls set as per my pattern style airplanes
I did not even dial in the crow mixing or fiddled much to achieve an accurate CG….. All in all a perfect and easy trainer yet a nice aerobatic performer paired with a Kingtech K 85 G2. An average of 5 minutes of flight (mixed throttle) and landed with almost ½ tank full. Loops, rolls, 4 points, 8 points, Knife edge….you name it. Very clean!!
I will definitely push things further and test the slow speed characteristics in the upcoming flights and also dial in the crow mix
Needless to say that I made a few of my friends jealous that day!!
I am very pleased with this jet and it is definitely a keeper!!
Thanks for all the input and advise.
Regards,

Turbine Size for MB-339
Question on turbine size for this plane.
The description on BananaHobby states : "Engine is ready for your 80kg to 140kg turbine"
I have a JetCentral Cheetah SP (140 size) available. I fly from a grass field, about 200m long.
Is it practical to put a 140 in this plane? Most people seem to be at the lower range of turbine size.
Also, on the Boomerang RC site, the turbine size range is listed as "Recommended turbine size 6kg - 10kg. "

I purchased the MB+339 from Charles Young (shown above) without his Jetcat P90. I feel that I need a larger turbine as I am in Calgary, AB, Canada and we fly at 3300' ASL and from grass fields that are not very smooth. Many of you in the US enjoy flying from paved runways at much lower altitude. I feel I need the power for takeoff from the grass field at this altitude. I have purchased a Kingtech 120G2 for this model. Once airborne, throttle management will be necessary of course. I have flown RC for over 40 years and am experienced with many fast airplanes. This is my first turbine model. Looking forward to learning about turbines and flying this one. I'm hoping this will be a relatively forgiving jet model to learn about turbine flight. If anyone on this thread can offer their experience flying from grass and higher altitudes, I would appreciate it. Denver, CO anyone ? Thanks.

Randy,
Congrats on your purchase. although I find the 120 to be more than what's needed for this jet, as you very well mentioned it throttle management is the key...
I have a Kingtech K85G2 in mine and I find it just perfect.... I set my timer at 8 min and still have about 40 % fuel when I land. Throttle management makes this jet look very scale and realistic with quite enough power reserve when needed. it flies beautifully well and handles all axes perfectly. No gyro is needed. slow speed characteristics are good and you can land fairly slow. For now I am still using Take off flaps for landing due to the sustained winds on our runway. No problem whatsoever. although I fly on Tarmac, I do not foresee problems using a grass field. LG is strong and should work flawlessly.
Good luck with your maiden, and keep us posted.
Cheers

Thanks EXTRA_300, Your views are appreciated. I will certainly be careful with the K-120 installed in the MB-339. Of course, I also purchased it for use in a larger jet model some time down the road.
Looking forward to my maiden flight this fall. However, snow comes early in these parts of Canada. Our season is nearly over. I will post comments of my maiden flight when it happens.
Thanks again.

My Feedback: (31)
A few weeks ago I picked up a lightly used K-85G2 and put it in my MB339. I originally had a K-70G2 in it and that was fine, but I felt it needed a bit more power to complete better looking loops. With the K-85G2, I was recently able to put in four flights and it seems to fly much better. The takeoff roll and climb out has much more authority. Loops appear to be better as well. No significant change in fuel consumption either. Plan to fly it at this years BITW (which is where I originally got it last year) to get a better feel for its overall performance on this turbine. May put the wing tanks back on too :-).

Guys,
Tell me about your JP Hobby brake controller. I cannot get the brakes to come on smoothly and proportional with my transmitter slider. They are either OFF or ON 100%. This can't be right. I have tried adjusting the two pots in the brake controller but they don't seem to do anything. I have adjusted the % travel in the transmitter for my AUX slider for the brakes. Cannot get a nice easy brake force between 0% and 100%. There must be a way. Help please.

OK, thanks. I'm hearing the same thing on Facebook forums. Perhaps higher end brakes are proportional but not the JP Hobby.
I will give it a try as is and slide into home plate....
