Default First Jet

Hey All,

Been an RC plane guy for long time and decided I would like to give the jet world a try. I am looking for a composite (not covering) jet that has a wide flight envelope much like the boomerang which I understand is no longer available. Dont want to break the bank but also don't want junk.

Would appreciate some recommendations.

Thanks!

If I were starting out again new to jets and trying to keep costs down, I'd take a very hard look at the Mini T-1.

Small havoc or rebel from elite sport are nice wide speed range and not bad tendencies as well

Fei Bao Dolphin S. Good size, fast, slow with no bad habits, magnificent construction airex wings/fuselage and cf laminate formers, immaculate paint. 120 -160 range of motors. I have had 2 Dolphin L and love them. I have flown the S version and it flies better than the L. They also make a Mini for 80-100 size motors. The price is right too.

edit: I'm aware he's referencing the SS, but a 35lb jet is only "small" in the same way an F-350 is smaller than a semi truck.

Kind of depends on what you want, or can afford, to spend. Jets seem to always wind up being more than you initially wanted to spend.

The regular T One is a nice model and is supposed to be very easy to fly. I can't say as I've not flown mine yet....

As for the broadest flight envelope, it would probably be a BVM Bobcat.

The Ripmax Excalibur comes in a variety of sizes Ripmax - Error 404
and is very similar to a Boomerang However AFAIK there is no US Ripmax dealer unless someone knows different.

Call Dirk at Pacific RC Jets. He can get you set up on a T-One with pretty much all you need but a receiver and fuel in one stop.
The T-Ones have a wide envelope, but will slow down and ease in for landings.
They are all composite, come in 3 different sizes, straight forward, quick assembly, and incredible quality for the price.
The small version even comes with electric retracts and brakes stock, the two larger ones are a pretty reasonable upgrade, and you won't have to wait forever to get it.

Comp ARF Flash, either ultra or classic. A friend has a classic and I swear sometimes he tries to kill it, thing is build like a tank. Not sure how many flights he has on it, but a year and a half ago he sent the P120SX he bought new with the plane in for service with something like 28 hrs on it. I think he's getting ready to put it up for sale to fund either a Havoc SS or a new Ultra Bandit EVO, PM me If you think you might be interested.

ZMan39,

This is Eric from A& E Jets USA responding to your request for a great first jet. Mr. Perry responded until I could get back to my office aftr my wife's B-Day dinner outing. That being said, FeiBao offers several great sport jets the most recent being the new 2M Dolphin. All composite and available in just about any color scheme you want (mine is the Red, White and Blue Mr. Perry posted) and fly's unbelievably well on 85 series turbines. Mine has the K-85 G2 and is not lacking in performance in any way. Just under 28 lbs at TO, you are able to fly 8 minutes with reserve to make a couple of circuits then land.. . .still with a fourth of a tank remaining.

The 2M Dolphin and it's cousin the Dolphin S come complete with electric retracts and brakes which operate perfectly with the included controller. Turbine Pipe, fuel system, complete hardware kit ( I used just about everything in the 2M build) as well as carbon fiber laminated bulkheads are standard.

Delivered price of the 2M Dolphin to the lower 48 is $2,495.00
Delivered price for the Dolphin S with electric retracts to the lower 48 is, $3,195.
The color combinations are endless . . .FBjets will get you to their web page. Then click on Dolphin S and mini Dolphin to review the jet model.

We have the 2M Dolphin and Dolphin S out of production in all white awaiting our customers color selection. From your paid order, you are 4-5 weeks away from receiving your new model.

I look forward to speaking with you about this excellent jet model. I may be reached at 941-468-1246 7 days a week at any reasonable hour. My email is: [email protected]

We look forward to earning your business. . .

Regards,
Eric

I had a feibao MIG-15. I would consider the Dolphin but I would be afraid to drop all that cash considering what’s happening with China. I will be looking for a used one on RC universe preferably new in box

Let me know how it comes together...i would love to have one. My first assignment in the USAF was Keflavic Iceland where i worked on F4E's, however we had T33's there as well. I remember the crew chiefs looking in the tail pipe when they would start the engine.

Staying on topic I would recommend the BVM Bobcat. It's fast and slow. You activate retracts and flaps with spoilerons for really slow landings.

Pilot RC Predator looks like really good value for money. I would put it up there with a good first jet option.
