Default Mississippi Afterburner 2019

It’s about time for the 28th Mississippi Afterburner April 11-13. It’s one week earlier than normal because Easter falls on the normal date this year. I’ve had several requests lately so I wanted to go ahead and post it. We have got a lot of good things happening that l’ll expand on shortly.

For any newbies, the Mississippi Afterburner is at the John Bell Williams airport (KJVW) in Raymond MS, 6000', lots of RV parking, Jet A and oil on site. overnight airplane storage. Saturday nite has the best food around including 200lbs of crawfish, catfish, 3 flavors of homemade cobbler, 5 flavors of homemade ice cream. Chefs Dawn, Bob-O and Price cook breakfast in the hanger Friday and Saturday mornings, eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes free to the pilots and crew. Lots of pilot giveaways and a great auction. Commercial tents available. For you who don't know, this events raises money for a scholarship fund you created for the aviation department of the school who owns the airport we use. So we're having fun and doing some good. We have kept people in school who otherwise would have not financially be able to stay. Thank you! None of the money we take in goes in our pockets. Registration is $45.00 preregister or $65.00 on site. Go to MississippiJets.org and click on a for a regisfterburnertration form. AMA and FAA required. Call Dawn Ellzey at 972-264-4288 for help with hotels. Several close by. Call me on tents and questions. Vernon 601-955-3826

For those of us at MA last year, Bill Culbertson made the event by doing a noon time show in his MIG17 for us all three days! Good news! I talked to Bill a few days ago and he wants to do it this year!

I was just thinking that's an odd name for a jet..........unless you're Spongebob.

Come on guys, you know a spatula is not a plane. It is a turbine powered pancake flipper offered by Elite Aerosports

If you can make it it's well worth the trip. Feels more like a regular day at the flying field rather than a large event. Very relaxed and no drama. And it doesn't hurt that every year somebody brings a really cool full scale. One year it was a P-51, then an L29, then a Mig 15 and last year the Mig 17 doing afterburner passes down the runway was about a cool as it gets. Make the drive, you won't be disappointed.

I remember it well. Warmed the inside of the hangar. The mayor of Winnona was there and his remark after the shot was, "put more gas in it". LOL

Vernon,

Thanks for posting the info early. It's on my calendar and I am hoping to make it this year, definitely my favorite event of the year. Hopefully I'll be there with some OKC or west Texas guys too.

You ought to submit a request to USAF Public Affairs and see if we can get a Bone or other flyby. I'll volunteer to be the ground liaison officer!

I submitted the request. Looking at the requirements, it was not favorable for us but I still did it. You got any pull?
