Look at the starter housing, right where the O ring is supposed to be, from what I can see, something got loose in there, I will assume because the O ring is completely gone, that metal part is not supposed to hang there.

I got an estimate from George, we are looking at about $500 for parts and labor to get this engine back to runing conditions, it will need a compressor, starter and a compressor nut.

Ouch!!
I wonder if the Bendix simply unscrewed, jammed into the nut and wore everything out and generating the FOD that got the compressor.
There is a chance that the leading edges of the turbine wheel also is damaged by that same fod on its way thru, but not visible from the rear
The fact that the bearing feel good is a good sign.

Stuff the K80 into the R54, We have a R54 at our field with a K80 in it.

I had to make a custom spanner wrench to tighten my Jet Cat bendix. The starter may be fine, you might just need a new bendix. The JetCat starter motor is very expensive for a $4 motor.

I agreed, I was told by another jet guy that the debris was too small to cause any internal damage and that the burner can will trap any small debris going through it, the bearings are in the tunnel protected, no problem there, it's spinning free, so noting jammed in there.

Looking at your pictures, I can see now where the debris came from.

Yep! The K80 would do nice on the Reaction but, it would also make me add lead to the nose, probably about a pound and half on the nose to balance it.

It should be less than a pound in the nose, The weight difference between a P60 and K80 is only about 15oz. The engine is closer to the CG than the nose is. My R54 is 25 lbs dry, I doubt if you can notice another 2 lbs on this plane.

Cant imagine you'd have to add lead. I know people with P70's on the R54 and they balance just with the batteries.

When I went from a P-60 to a Rabbit, I only added a few ounces. I flew it with the p-60 for quite a few years and going from 13 to 19 pounds of thrust made it a lot more fun.

I also have the P70 in mine AND about a pound of lead in the nose. Even having the 17lbs of thrust in a 25 lb plane I can still do a pretty long vertical right from takeoff until it ends in a hammerhead stall at the top.Just do it, although you may not want to go back to the P60 later on.........

You're probably right on that but, the K80 is destined for the Turbinator, you got me thinking here, I will mount the K80 on the Reaction and fly it with it till the Turbinator comes on line, by then the P60 will be back from getting fix, then I can swap them so they end up on the jet that they were originally planned for.

I get the feeling we'll be seeing an ad for sale in the classifieds for a P-60 just back from JetCat. Willing to trade for 80 to 90 size!

The R54 may not want to relinquish the K80 once it gets a taste of it..........

I keep hearing how much fun the R54 is with an 18 lbs thrust engine.

Bruce has shipped the K80 engine mount, it should be here by Friday.

I have found that once I fly a jet with a particular turbine, I have almost never have been pleased with a smaller turbine. Had to do a smaller turbine a couple times. After flying with a larger turbine, the only time I was satisfied with a smaller turbine, was in a replacement plane when the bigger turbine caused the plane to just come apart, in the air! (i.e. Sprints just can't handle a P-140 for very long!) The turbine made me do it!

Surrrrrre, blame it on the turbine, aha!

Not everyone is innocent as they claim to be, aha.
