Default Fuel Pump

Has anyone mounted their fuel pump vertically or is this not good practise?

Not required but just like a filter it can help prevent any possible air bubble build.

If there is any leakage at the pump on that Turbinator, it's gonna get into the pump motor.

There are at least 5 things in this picture that I would have done differently, can you guess which ones?

It must be because of space.....I wouldn’t have my pumps mounted this way....

I see 5 things. Not sure the same 5 as yours though.
  1. Have the fuel filter loose, not hard mounted
  2. Have the fuel filter vertical, not horizontal
  3. Mount the fuel pump horizontal
  4. Move the manual fuel shutoff to the pump input line
  5. Wire lock the fuel lines on the fuel pump

We all have our way to do things.....my motors have never quit in flights, so I’m guessing I’m doing ok with my method...
1- yes
2-not required
3-either way work......but I don’t like the bend in those fuel, line seem flat...might be the photo.
4-perfect were its
5-yes

Did this just to show..there’s more then one way, the proof is in the running......motor will either run or be only trouble.....

You forgot, do not use Festo’s on the suction side.
In one of my jets, I do have my pump mounted vertical. I mounted it this way for convenience and nothing to do with the system. Guys, other then that engine position for start, none of the other stuff should matter, other than maybe the BVM UAT, and that is truly only for filling to help keep the air out. Think about it? When flying, are you always flying level? Or do you go vertical, inverted, dives, etc.

Festo does fine with sucking...read the Ultimate Jet (company) write up that...no pump that we uses have enough suction to cause a problem....

A perfect cut is required (I’m using Festo cutting tool(pliers))...and if you undo that connection a lot....a clean cut once in a while will prevent leak...

I only used Festo fitting in all my jets....for the last 5 years.....never had a flame out....(touching wood LOL)

Let us comment on the install to learn and to improve ours, I always appreciate suggestions from others with experince.

Todd has some good points, Dansy also has a good point, we all install differently.

On my last install ( R54 ) it was suggested to me that the fuel lines entering and exiting the festo shut off valve needed to be at least 1" straight, I change that.

Before and after.
