Man this is such an inspirational build hopefully one day I’ll get to this level. For now I’ll stick to my foamy turbines until I can afford one

Hey Bud I HIGHLY recommend longer pins for the front of the canopy lock. Just the a slight flex from flight aerodynamics of the air flow over the canopy is enough to cause it open in flight. Saw this happen on one and I made loner pins for that very reason.

Waiting for the maiden!

One question - why do you start both turbines together? isn't it better to start one after the other?

Great question. I can't think of any reason not to start them together. With the GSU's hooked up your able to see the conditions of both engines.
interested to know if anyone has any reason to start separate?

And BOOM! Here is the maiden!

Please note if your building one of these aircraft. DO NOT FOLLOW THE MANUALS ZERO for the elevators!!!!!
It is not correct!

By the end of this maiden we had added 90 points of up elevator to have her fly neutral.

There will be a follow up video with all the changes.

Congrats!!! great job, happy to see it flying.

It seems like a very long T/O run. Was it due to the wrong elevator position, or this is normal for this specific F-18?

Thanks!
No take off run was not normal. it took much more runway than it should have.

It was a combo of a few things.
1. Elevator neutral.
2. Engines lagged on take off throttle up. This is just an assumption as we have no hard data to prove this. BUT on all the taxi runs we did it was very different.
If you watch the take off run again, the first 1/3 of the runway the plane is just lagging.

Also F18 has the gear well behind the CG. This makes them difficult to rotate.

congrats on maiden.

Maybe it is a idea to put both rudders inward just like the real f18, it helps in the takeoff and Landing to get the nose up easier.

Geoff

this does help bring the nose up. It’s also good for landing with extra drag and holding nose up.

Congrats on the maiden. Sounds like the recommended CG is wrong from the manual if you had to trim it so much. Maybe try to move the CG backwards a bit and try again.

Congrats again.

Did you already had the chance to check the Engine data, if they lagged on takeoff ?
