Default Speed Brake pics

Here are a few pics from my build on the F100. These might help someone when doing their own build.
Gary

My speed brake was not installed so I had to figure out how it should be attached. I simply used two short pieces of 4 mm rod glued to the bottom of the fuselage.

I added two additional supports on top of each 4 mm rod to hold them snug against the fuse. All radio gear sitting on ply plates directly on the bottom of the fuselage. The carbon fiber pieces glued to the speed brake are drilled out to 4mm to match the 4 mm pins. I also added 2” carbon fiber around the edges of the speed brake opening. This opening is a little weak in my opinion once the speed brake is cutout.

Fuel pump and JMP UAT location. Carbon fiber was added on each side of the front door opening as well.

All radio gear sitting on ply plates directly on the bottom of the fuselage.

Engine mount location will be at the front of the engine mounts for my K210.

Default Tailpipe mounting

Turbine centered in tailpipe.

It is necessary to add ply extension pieces to the back of the carbon former to support the tailpipe at the back of the fuselage. These are not included so you will need to make your own ply extensions. Supporting the pipe at four locations is sufficient because the outer pipe is very rigid.

Default Fuel System & Tailpipe

Plumbing for fuel system

Final position for turbine. It is a little further back than estimated to get proper distance from tail cone to pipe.

Rear of tailcone is in line with the carbon fiber bell mouth. Seems to be about 25mm from pipe.

Default Tailcone brackets

Tail brackets glued on tail cone.

Holes drilled in each bracket to attach to the rear carbon former.

Two coats of BVM heat shield on tail cone and it is ready to install.

Default Drop Tanks

Hello F100 friends - I have just ordered an F 100 in the Thunderbirds Scheme and I am still thinking about whether I should also order the Drop Tanks - does anyone have any experience with it? I think it's 600g more weight. But most of them fly without drop tanks - why? can someone tell me his experiences.
Many thanks from Munich Germany.
Regards Frank

Hallo !!!
I have an F100 on the same Thunderbirds scheme, I'm close to finish the build, I didn't order the drop tanks as for my knowledge the TB did not fly at the shows with them installed, just for cross country flights were more enduranse was needed, that's the only reason I didn't order them... I'll be always doing the Solo Flight hahaha !!

Any way, does any one know what is the proper CG?

Also, anyone has an aperating canopy? if so how did you make it open and what's requiere to do so???....

Finishing the build on my CARF Hun… your RCU pics have been very helpful. Since the model comes with no instructions (it’s an easy build), I am seeking guidance on throws and the CG (location,UAT full?, gear down?) Thanks.

wow, what a great thread. I'm about to pull the trigger on an order for one of these bad boys, and cant wait to get started! it looks like a super quick and easy build too! It will be 5+ months to get the order processed ( also getting a DG 800 going on order at the same time ) so hopefully i can wrap up some other projects in the shop before then!!

I believe I'm good to go on most details and info, however I have not seen any info on how the few guys who use drag chutes have them set up. since CARF will be doing a good amount of the paint/finish on the order, I'm wondering if there is anything I can look for them to do before paint/finish to help facilitate for a chute ... ??? on the full scale, i believe the chute pops out from a dual door compartment under the tail and that would be super simple for me to cut out, box and hinge, but then the chord attachment point is under the rudder and the line i think would need to tuck up and around the cone somehow ... that's the part where I'm not sure what others have done and what is realistically possible .... any suggestions ?

also, is anyone aware of any scale accessories for the gear and/or inside the doors ? .. If not, I may end up CADing some bits up once I get the plane in

also @MattyMatt , I love the scheme and execution on it! beautiful jet !!
