I've got about 15 flights on mine now and settled on a nice CG. Total weight is 12.7kg (28lbs) with fuel in the UAT. All batteries are next to the nose wheel, and I have ~200g in the nose of the canopy. SW220 for power and MAP 6oz UAT, PB pioneer. I have 9.1% of the weight on the nose wheel (nose wheel weight ÷ by total weight). I'm not sure where this lands on the wing, but checking wheel weight % is easier to do solo. I've experimented with going as far back as ~7.5% nose weight and it was extremely pitchy. This feels like a nice balance to do both sport flying and 3D.

Thanks for the response Dave W. I just received my jet. I'm trying to determine if I should apply BVM heat shield inside the fuse. I know it can add a lot of weight.

.. does that mean you have 200g extra lead in the nose of the plane to get it balanced with the SW220?
thx

No, it’s not required.

Another was just finished here with a Behotec 220, also balanced perfectly without any weight.
Battery size and equipment placement covers everything, if you are using one of the 220 size turbines it’s going to be similar to my pictures.
My guess is he is flying nose heavy because it suits him, without doing the simple balance check with a string we don’t know exactly where his weight on the nose wheel figure puts him.

Dave you may have posted it before but what’s your balance with a string look like completely pictured? What do you have the strings attached to. Also what is on the other side of the wing, I think before you posted a picture of just knots but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the whole setup. Thanks.

With the canopy on, gear down, hopper full and just the ‘sump’ full of fuel at the back of the main tank, 400mm back from the leading edge joint. I’ve played between 400 and 405mm in the same state. Expo with 42mm up and down elevator is around 65%.

I tie a knot on the string and trap under the wing/fuselage joint.

FlyJ Carbon frame would add weight and full Powerbox. So you have not saved weight with minimum equipment, everything would need mounting forward.
I looked at my balance/weight at the beginning and I had about 1070g on the nose wheel.

Carbon frame and full PB will not save weight. That makes 0 sense, it's a moment arm. The farther the weight is forwards the more it effects the CG. I opted for a small PB, then to add weight in the front of the canopy, where you could not mount anything. I can use less mass since I'm increasing the moment arm.

Without knowing your total weight, 1070g doesn't give us much information.

Nope, it's a felt clunk. The photo is just after defueling. You can see the nipples are about even with the fuel.

Weight was in an early post 13.46kg

But balance is best done with the string/cord. Repeatable and accurate

Answering properly, I tie knots on each end (knots on knots to increase the physical size) trap the cable by the wing with the knots under the ideal balance point. It’s one loop of string and with the model on the ground I pick it up.

Test flight today of the first non vector Diablo, powered by a JetCat P-130Rx-B. Four perfect flights, had owner Lewis smiling.
Futaba guidance, with Powerbox Mercury SR-2, i-Sat Gyro and MacGregor servos.

Lewis’s visit meant three Diablo’s at our field, probably the first time in the World three have been together on one airfield.

Another Diablo test flown this weekend. Non vector, JetCat P-160Rxi-B MacGregor servos, Powerbox Core. Covered in Uni lights 🙄

Heavy for a non vector at 13.2kg with all the extra equipment and ‘bling’

Still flies great.

Some sort of Uni Light strip thing, there are two on each wing LE. I’m not into lights so don’t know the numbers

Would 250 XBL be too much for this , as I happen to have one laying around..

And is the little wing removable, I dont like the looks of it , spoils nice lines sitting on top of the canopy..?

More power than needed, but comes down to throttle use.
It unbolts, but it is aerodynamic…and a handle to remove the canopy!

Got word that mine should hit the beach on Friday so hoping to pick it up from the warehouse next week sometime.

Does anyone have the box dimensions they can provide so I can see which vehicle I need to take?

Thanks!!

Getting ready to start my build, plane came in last week and looks amazing and insanely light.

On the fuel tank mounts, I’m going with the KT210, mounts should go in front of the wing tube correct? Do I want it up against the wing tube or slightly in front?

On the thrust vector pushrods, are they the correct length as received? Do I just use JB weld or epoxy to secure the threaded part into the carbon tubes?

I also usually replace the other pushrods with turnbuckles but this time I’m going to try to use the included hardware. The carbon that slides over the all thread, do you glue it or is it just free floating over the threaded rods?

Is there still no manual? Most things are straight forward but there’s still some questions.

Thanks!
