Default Xfly B-1 Turbine Conversion

Flew the Xfly B-1 Turbine Conversion again today. Two more good flights today. A little more tweaking of CG and control rates and it will be a fun flier. Thanks to Keith for design help and John and Hank for videos. I plan on making a short build BLOG later next week. It was a pretty simple conversion.

X-45 turbine mounted externally on bottom of fuse.

Wow! You guys never fail to impress. Well done! Are you going to post any photos of the build?

Thanks. We copied the ideas from the one in Australia, Keith designed the 3D printed parts and I just assembled everything.

Yes I plan on posting build photos next week.

Thanks
Gary

I had the B-2 for about 6 months. I had very little luck with it. Any crosswind made it near impossible to takeoff or land IMO. Also the internal structure was not conversion friendly without major structural mods.
I'd rather try an SR-71. it would be much simpler, much like the B-1.

That would be cool, but much more effort than I'm willing to put in it now.

Default More B-1 Turbine Conversion Flights

More good flights today on B-1 turbine conversion. Nothing special about this flight except it shows how long and relaxed you can fly.

This flight was 6.5 minutes with 40% fuel remaining. Last flight was 8 minutes with 29% remaining. It’s fun to cruise around with wings swept without worrying about burning the EDF battery down.

Getting CG and control rates dialed in. Slowly moving CG aft for better landing performance and reducing elevator rates. A gyro upgrade will probably be in near future. The stock gyro is OK but gains a fixed and can not be adjusted to handle gusty turbulence.

I bought a set the 45mm JP brakes but was unable to easily mount them on the main axles so as of now no brakes.
