Default Servo advice needed

Hello all,

I will soon be building a facet 1200 and since this is my first jet I need some input as to what servos to use. I have always been a fan of Futaba and I will be using Futaba radio/receiver. I would like to put the most reliable servos in my plane, I have heard good and bad things about hitech...

If someone could give me two servo scenarios, one that is the best money can buy and one that is acceptable for jets but more conservatively priced. Thanks for any help.

I am building a Facet 1200 and I am using Hitec digital HS-5475HB (76/.18 at 6V Dual BB) they sell for $35.95 from [link=http://www.servocity.com]Servo City[/link]. If you really like Futaba S9202 (98/0.26 at 6V Dual BB) they sell for $54.95 and are a excellent servo, I used them in a Y/A F-4. But what ever servo you buy I suggest you burn them in and test and test them before you use them.

Trumpetjet,

I lost my Facet on it's maiden when a Hitec servo went into full deflection failure. My suggestion would be to use Futaba 9202's for Ailerons, Jr 531's or Futaba S3010 for flaps and rudder and a futaba 8402 or JR4721 for elevator. Now if money were not an issue, here is what I would have used....

Ailerons = Voltz Wing maxx (or JR ds168)
Flaps = Voltz Wing Maxx (or JR ds168)
Elevator= JR 8411
Rudder = JR 9411

Im sorry to hear you lost a plane to a servo, I hope it was not a complete loss.....

Was the servo new? Or had it been used before? I sure would not want to chance a new jet to the possibility of failure

Trumpet jet,

The Hitec 56XX series of servos are notorious for somehow going to full deflection and locking there. I have used the Hitec 5945 servos with excellent results as have several other jet jockies I know. I used these in place of the gear sloppy JR 8411's as the 5945's are much tighter.

It's really a matter of opinion as to which servos to use....Some swear by Hitec---Others swear at them.

I have had 2/ 5645s out of 6 hard over on me, and I just reset them with the programmer and that resolved the issue. For some reason the factory is letting these servos go with out the end points set properly. There quality assurance is not the best on the market so I suggest everyone that uses Hitec digitals do extensive testing with them before installing them into a airframe.

Trumpetjet,

The Hitec servos were brand new. Plane was a complete loss but the bonus in the design of the facet is it does a great job of protecting the engine from impact. The simjet came out fairly unscathed.
I am one of those who now swear at Hitec, I have gone back to my trusty JR/Futaba servos for good .

May my Facet RIP []

I had previously bought 4 of the 5245's to use on the ails & flaps on my Stafire II.After all the bad omens surrounding these I decided not to gamble & have since put them on gear & brake valves since I couldn't return them to the LHS.Ya know the good ole 30 day return policy thangy most of them have. I bought JR 3421 instead to go on the Starfire

On a different note Todd,I checked out the Aquascooter site-very cool machine there man!!.Where were you back in 94 when I lost/sunk my first Yamaha Waverunner here after hotdogging/racing too much-hit a marker buoy at 50mph[X(].I could have used one of them babies to maybe find it LOL It's a reef now at 50 feet
