Anything cheaper out there? At that rate I will speed 1000's before I get a layup that I will like.

Default alternatives

you might look at using balsa instead of rohacell then. kevin's pretty cheap and pretty thorough, if there is another vendor out there cheaper with supply, he'd probably know. You might try art's hobby just to see.

Default Rohacell

Hey Pat, I resemble that remark!!!

Actually CST is the only company I have come across that sells the stuff. I have never used it myself, but a friend of mine owned several Terminators and X-Terminators, the wings were molded using Rohacell.
I was not very impressed with the way it withstood even minor damage. The spars could break loose from the inside surface very easily if the wing was torqued in a less than perfect landing. It appeared to me that even though the bond between the spar and the inside glass surface was very good, the rohacell was able to crush just a tiny bit and that allowed the thin glass on the inside to crack along both sides of the glue joint. The spar, glue joint, and the thin strip of glass that it was attached to seperated from the rohacell.
I think 1/16" balsa would be just as good or better, and at much less cost. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yeah I think I may go with the balsa, what is the lightest balsa comes in? And who sells it? I guess its time to call Sig.
Is the rohacell lay up a lot lighter? has anyone compared it to a balsa lay up?

Default weights

lone star balsa in lancaster texas does a pretty good job of "selecting" balsa I believe. you can compare the weights of the materials against each other. the link kevin posted has the cu. ft. weights of the rohacell and the balsa house ought to get you close with theirs. I believe the absobtion of epoxy into the materials would be similar due to the "cellular" construction of the rohacell. I know in the few field repairs I have participated in that was the case.

Pat
Thats great, there is not to much difference between the two and I am sure the balsa is much stronger. I will call them tomorrow and order a bunch.
