This turbine will allow for a whole new array of small jets .... I sure hope they carry it through to production. Bob

Thanks for the posting of the article. Wonder if Kyosho or Hot Bodies will come through with new jets designed around this unit.

As you know i fly Wren 44 which is currently the smallest in the world, we have had 'bar' discussions over how practical it is to go smaller. I think the 44 is the smallest practical size, it weighs 1lb but gives 8.5 lbs of thrust. The problem with going smaller is that the weight does not drop much, you still need batteries, pumps, valves etc. and you still need to carry fuel. I would think this baby is going to be thirsty.
The model can not be too small as you need to carry all this and fuel.

So

Engine 1lb
batteries etc 1lb
Fuel 1lb

That leaves you 1.5lb for airframe, radio retracts etc, if you want a 1/1 power to weight.

I am not saying it could not be used but is it worth it?

I feel it is a case of diminishing returns, the Wren 44 as you know is practical with great power to weight, it is novel to go smaller but????

What if they eliminated the autostart. That would cut down a little weight would it not?

Agreed, but still marginal returns.

Why do you have to carry the 1 lb of battery???? [sm=confused.gif]Plug it in, start it, unplug it and fly.[8D]

Ewald Shuster has one he built, that is that small. His worked great! 200,000 RPM!

Hi Gray,
Yes, you are flying one of those L-39 kits with a 44.I have some experience with the wren 44 with my friends ME-262. That is one sweet powerful little motor, they did not miss a beat. Just a little finnicky to light off, probably just us not getting the gas flow right.

If you note i said batteries etc.
You need an ecu ,pump and ecu batteries
I just approximated at 1lb

Wren 44 does 190,000 will go higher but is restricted to that level.

The gas flow is temperature sensitve, it took me a few starts to get it right, but it is not a problem.
