Default Duralite Battery users

Hey guys do you use redundant batteries/switches to the receiver? Or do you rely on just one pack?

Thanks

One pack has built in redundacy four batteries are wired series-parallell. I use the failsafe switches as well, if they fail they fail in the closed position.

For any model aircraft of mine that cost more than $1,000.00, I always use two separate switch harness / batteries. I have heard that matching the packs maybe a good idea, but I haven't done it that way..... bottom line is two packs gives you more capacity, current flow ----- needed when using at times up to a dozen servos.

I basically run the same thing as Lee. 2 switches and batteries into 2 receiver ports.

As David said, the duralites are already redundant within the one pack. You can also request dual leads on the duralite which are individually soldered to the pack for two RX inputs through two switches. This is just one advantage of using these packs....Redundancy without the weight!

That is an interesting idea to have redundancy built into one pack. As far as fail safe switches, what is the best there? HD JR or something like the Electo Dynamics switch?

Speaking of Electro Dynamics, they are at a trade show. I need 60" servo extensions and I want to use twisted lead extensions, do you have any suggestion of source for these?

Thanks

If you are using Duralites, they make a fail-safe switch that is built into one of their regulators. The other one I have used is the "Perfect Switch" from Jaccio.

Bob is correct, you can use the regulator/switch combo from duralite which also has failsafe built in, if eith the switch or the regualtor fails they fail CLOSED I have also used the Perfect switch and JR HD with good results on both.

Safe way to go 2 switches and batteries. One in the batt input in the reciever and the other Y in to the throttle.

One comment about using this setup. Always test it each time you turn on.

Primary ON. Let the gyro stabilize. Test controls.
Secondary ON. Test controls.
Primary OFF. Test controls.
Primary ON. Go Fly

Hmmm....I have always used two separate Nimh 2150 packs with two switches. Using a single redundant 4000 pack with a failsafe switch and regulator is mighty intriguing....

[]hi guys;

this is a good topic because i have been building a yellow f-18 twin with a single bifocated tail pipe am almost done.what you guys think about the duralite powerbox is this a good way to go for rebundancy as far for the electronic part i meen for the digital servo which i have 8 all together 6of then are DS8411 and on the elevator DS8611.will this system save enough.[sm=confused.gif]

thank you tito-1

The Duralites are wired series/parallel...The cells are wired in pairs in series, then each pair is wired together in parallel if I understand what I've been told correctly. I've also been told you can loose up to two cells and the pack will still provide enough power. (As long as the two cells are together in series) Talk about redundancy!!! Chances of loosing two cells at once is very remote....If you loose just one cell you will be bringing your baby back!!!

My 2 cents

I run 2 batteries 2700mah with 2 JR switches and a Jomar battery backup this will auto transfer power sources if a failure occurs.

I here that Duralite has a power panel / matchbox in the works.
One other funny thing I was in Germany 2 years ago and had a conversation with a fellow that told me this is the same as the European power box. Just marketed or licensed in the USA. I mention this because in Germany it was half the price before Duralite got involved.

Food for thought

Perfect procedure similar to checking mags ..... full scale..

Hi Flyjets.
The Powerboxes are all made in Germany. The Powerbox you said for half price is another one and still available, but this doesn´t have all features like the Powerbox Duralite! You meant the Powerbox Expert. This one doesn´t have regulators, only 4 channels and no electronic switch like the Duralite Version has!
The Duralite/Competition Version has the same price in Germany!

The Jaccio ad says "no more guesing when to discard old switch harnesses" because it operates on "low voltage" Can someone explain what this means ? Thx

The switch is used to operate an enable input on the regulator instead of switching the power directly.

One downside is that the regulator is always connected to the battery, and will consume a very small amount of current at all times. The Jaccio instructions recommend disconnecting the battery if are not going to use the model for a while. A while would be measured in weeks, not days or hours. I don't have any problem with mine while flying weekly, but if I leave it for a month there is some noticeable discharge not attributable to battery self-discharge.

There is a review article in the latest RCJI on The Duralite Power box. I have chosen this system for my Fiber Classics Mig 29 as it provides total power redundancy as two packs are used and, of course, it provides de-coupled, amplified signals for numerous servos, ideal for large jets like the Mig. with many long leads. It is a very good device extensively used in large models.

I have spent quite some time investigating power sources for jets, the minimum, I believe is two packs and two switches and I have had total success with Duralites old and new. The large capacity also eliminates charging at the field and coupled with Duralite ECU batteries charging between flights is now a thing of the past.

David Gladwin.
