Default Pegasus SP

Well Guys,
I received my Pegasus SP from BVM last Friday that will power my Avonds F-15. Those of you that might have any start boxes or accessories they no longer need would you drop me an email on what you have? Thanks!

there is a scuba tank in the jet classified area, and a auto start box for AMT in the engines classsifieds under the turbine engines heading. I have a 180 SP and owned a pegasus for awhile, let me know if you have questions.

I have an autostart box I will probably never use that I wouldn't mind letting go @ a fair price. I recommend you get a manual start box or an old RAM start box. The only reason I recommend the manual start is so that you can become familiar with the start sequence before you allow a "box" to do it for you. In addition, your ear will become attuned to anything out of the ordinary once fuel starts flowing.

I agree, I am using one of the CAI , GSU boxes from a while back to manual start my 180SP.
and am very happy with the starts I am getting that way. And as you said, really hearing, seeing the data, for the start sequence gets you very aware of what is going on during a start up.
Roger
oh yeah , I can fill my retract and brake tanks right off the GSU. plug in chargers

I have both the manual start box and a NIB never to be used Autostart box. I don't know how the Auto compares to the manual but I plan on sticking with the manual start box for the reasons stated by Buck. BTW Buck, I opted for a new from the factory 180SP to replace my other 180 I sold this past winter (I should have kept it). It should be here Friday. Now all I have to do is sell my "Peggy" to get the new

Ken

glad to hear about the new purchase. I keep getting drawn to your Tornado but don't have the room for another big plane. King Cat, Hornet and Rafale. my little one car garage has just enough room to maneuver if I suck in my gut when I work around the planes.

I know what you mean. sometimes I wish I had kept mine also. Joe Grice tells me the 400 is a powerhouse. I'm sure you're going to love it.

Hi Roger and Buck,

Yea I have my eye on that Scuba tank and he also has a turbine central GSU that can fill retracts but I am looking to use the male female umbilical connector that AMT uses on their autostart system. The scuba tank isn't the priority now as I can walk over to Woket's and grab one. Has anyone used the turbine central GSU? Would it be hard to adapt a glow button and a gas button to it similar to the AMT start box? This is the link to the GSU:
http://www.fusionxstudio.com/backup/...ral/Mingsu.asp

It's that or I am going to buy a manual start box with the connector on it.

Let me know when your ready for the Tornado Buck, I will just about give it away to someone that can finish it and put it in the air. That is why I bought the AMT AT280, for the Tornado. Either the 280 or the 400 will go in a converted Byron F-15 (another big monster at 105" long) Take care and Fly staright.
Topgun, I would buy the manual starbox from AMT. It does not cost much more than the GSU I checked out on your link and it is guaranteed to work with no head scratching. I think the current price is somewhere around $185.00. Hope it works out and good flying.

Ken,

don't tease me amigo. It's not that tough of a choice. You've already done all the work. Rigging is the easy part. Just finish it.

Mike,

if you want to get the GSU you should talk to Roger. he's got experience with something similiar and has probably already figured out how to incorporate a glow plug device. Or.....you can just get a manual start box and take advantage of AMTs research.

let me know if you desire the auto start box.

regards

buck

I believe the manual start box from AMT has provisions for the propane, gas, and an internal battery for starting. It also can use the umbilical cord that the ASU uses. You just need the female end in the plane and the male end is connected to the start box. You can even add the EDT unit to use with the start box.
The original electric start system AMT designed used an electric starter motor on the engine controlled by a modified ASU. The ASU was connected to a 12 volt power source and propane supply. The electric supply and propane was sent to the engine via the umbilical cord. The start sequence was handled by the ASU. The neat part about it was the fact that all the solenoid valves, propane supply, and electronics were out of the plane, not taking up room, adding additional wiring or tubing headaches, and not adding onboard weight.
Operation was simply a matter of connecting the umbilical cord and flipping the switch on your transmitter. The engine went through the start cycle and you disconnected the cord. After landing, you reconnected the umbilical and the engine would go through a complete shut down cycle, including cool down, after switching at the transmitter. When the cycle was complete, you just disconnected the umbilical. Since the ASU operated off a seperate 12 volt source, you had plenty of power for the start and cool down without using any power from the ECU battery on board the plane. It was one of the most impressive designs I had witnessed. About the only feature it did not incorporate was a built in ECU battery charger. The odd part about this system was that it was shown at the first or second Florida Jets event approximately two years before any other electric start system was offered.
I am sure the guys at AMT can give you all the information you need.
