That's a cool pic. Do you know where and when it was taken?

While back there was a Discovery Wings program about that test pilot that looked like Clarke Gable....forgot his name.....buddy of Chuck Yeager who test flew a captured MIG-15 out of Wright-Pat if memory serves......

Seems fairly certain that that is the Mig that the Korean guy defected in. The Mig has since been repainted back in North Korean markings and is still on display at Wright Pat. (I crawled over it there.)

The plane was evaluated for a while on one of the pacific islands (Okinawa?) before being sent to Ohio for more testing. I think Franky T may have done a BVM model in these markings.

At least at the time of filming of the Discovery Wings program, the defector was still alive and appeared in the show....

Interesting picture!!

The pilot's name who defected is Lt. Ro Kum Suk (Dr. Kenneth Rowe US name). I believe he actually wrote a book about his defection called "A Mig To Freedom". He's now an instructor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with the Engineering Department. I had him for several classes and it was fascinating to hear him tell his stories of how he defected and his first flights in a jet. He was actually my instructor for my first turbine class. Very jolly, intelligent guy.

Yes, I had Dr. Rowe for drafting back in the '90s at ERAU. Good to hear he's still around over there.
