The runway was just long enough ...
Thank you Angel for sharing your designs/vids [sm=thumbup.gif] !

YEA i think its to close to. Did not want to cut fan shroud but i will and make a new taller fiberglass cover . (remold the plug again). THANK YOU Strykaas

Well, if i got it right, you have scratch built this aircraft, right ?
It 's a real achievement, congrats man !
The fiberglass cover may be too close to the engine.... Make sure airflow is strong enough as well by cutting the fan shroud a bit just before the engine...
How fast ?

RE: Take a look (F-15)
I did something that I shouldn't done. But I did.
Well I smash it up in a dog fight, Jet vers, prop. I was doing a tight turn at full speed, at about 10ft. It was making the turn, but at 3/4 of the turn it just rolled over and went in split sec. I just stand there with my mouth open. And the hole crew went .wwwwwwwwoooooooooowwwwwww!!!!!!!!
Well I've started a smaller F-15, I have some pic soon.

RE: Take a look (F-15)
The one I crash had a lot of room with a dynamax. And now I want to squeeze......everything in tight. The first one had a 21 1/2" wing panel. And this one will have 16 1/2" wing panel. So its going to be tight.

Well the first one had 56"wingsp, Fuse 68"
And now its 42"wingsp, fuse 55 1/2". I'am working to keep this thing
very light and a little more speed out of it. I would like to see a take off loop in ducted fan.......

RE: Take a look (F-15)
I used to have a Sunset Models Sport Eagle (designed for a .45 sized fan) that only weighed 9 pounds. I had an OS.77 with a Dynamax fan in it. It would outclimb any DF I ever saw. It could climb out without losing speed at probably better than 60 degrees but would slow down pretty quick in a 90 degree vertical. I never tried a loop after take off. It might have worked. I put an OS.91 in it and vertical performance seemed much better, but I burned a hole in the piston during the first flight. I disovered later that the .91 was slightly taller than the .77 and it was enough to cut the airflow across the top of the piston.
Build it as light as you possibly can if you want vertical. I wouldn't look for too much speed as the F-15 airframe is actually pretty draggy. Most turbine powered F-15s are not real fast.

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Well my big F-15 56"ws. was doing 126mph at the Big Apple Jet Rally last year. I think this 42" ws. could get something more out of it. smaller frame and intake.

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Angel,
How can you install this 5' fan inside such a small fuse without a "hump" on the top / bottom ? Unless you don't want it to be scale, it's impossible I think. I've been around the same problem. The real f15 has some kind of groove between engine nacelles on the bottom of the fuse, it makes things worse... A flat bottom is the trick, but not scale then...
What do you think ?

Strykaas,
You know how everybody have there eng. in the middle of the fuse.
well I push it up just behind the canopy so its really close to the intake.
so it would not show the hump. Gives me about 1/2" to play with on the top.
Dynamax fan with you know .91 I don't have a .77 .I be running the wires groved in to the balsa, I don't have room aound the fan. I should have pic this week ,soon.

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Hi Angel,
Good job !
Three points come to my mind :
1- Inlet curves are steep but not as much as I thought : just as YA A-4's.
2- Inlet lips will have to be worked around I guess to round them a bit : it may not be easy If you want it scale, as they are really sharp on the real F15. What I've learnt so far is that sharp inlets will harm fan performance in non straight flight, as airflow gets really messy in these conditions.
3- Do you plan molding your inlets with epoxy / glass clothes to achieve a real smooth inlet curve ? I think It could be easier than doing so with soft balsa... And above all smoother...
Thanks for posting your pics. Please continue so that we may share our points of view. I haven't started mine yet but still thinking about all these issues to find the best compromise.
