RE: Take a look (F-15)
Hi Angel ! Oh I have a real pain in the back right now, can hardly walk !!
I see you've made lots of progress on your 2nd f15 !! It looks good already !
What about weight ?
Nice struts too. really adds up !
What is the diameter of your exhaust outlets ?

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Hi.......
Well the F-15 is weighted at 4 1/2 pounds with motor and fan 2 servo and BVM mix including the wheels. Fore now. Still need to put 5 servo and wings ,rudder. and the exhaust is 2 5/8.
Heres the wing. (pic)

It looks like you're gonna remain under 10 lbs, that's pretty nice !! It should fly like a rocket ...
Regarding the wing, no wing spar ??
Did you mold the exhaust outlet with fiberglass cloth / epoxy ?

Hi Angel,
I've been advised to built the full exhaut duct with 1/64 ply. It's easy with such a rig (photo courtesy by another rcu member). First roll one duct, cut it vertically at the fuselage middle location, then roll the second one. My guess is that it is the most efficient outlet duct as it is really smooth... However, my exhaut pipe (JMP) will disturb airflow a lot , thus reducing duct performance.
What do u think ?

Hey buddy
I have try that before, but you can't bend the exhaut duct to make it fater for the pipe. then you have to make two part exhaut duct .
I like to glass the tube. That way I could build around the pipe what ever size . I think with 1/64 ply will be good for long exhaut duct.
Is that big pipe.
I know theres a short pipe in the web site some were. I'll have to check back on that..I have see them. I have different type of pipes. the two pipes I will use for testing.

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Yeah my pipe is the second from top on the first picture. A very big pipe, but powerful hopefully !!
Well, you have many pipes !! You must be a quite experimented DF flyer !
By the way, which one gives you best performance ? The two on the second picture ? I recognize JMP dual exhaust short pipe... But what about the other one ??
I know weston uk carries sort pipes, but I have already two (another one from PMP, ultra light, but with a poor joining system), and they're quite expensive now, and hard to get too, DF are slowly dying... Philip Avonds no longer stocks Ramtec fans for example...

RE: Take a look (F-15)
If your useing the big boy. I would build round it. ( powerful ,it is......) Which I like the most but its too big. The real short one is a V-tech pipe for the Byron fan system. But that for .80s.
I like the BVM pipe and jmp. The other is cut down byron pipe ,kept the first half section .
its short, acts like a mini nitro pipe. And Mac pipe open and muf. I have someone here to weld the pipe after it set up. I have to save at least one year to get turbine. for know I like were I'am at with the DF.

Yeah me too, have to save for one year to get the baby... So I stick to DF for the time being. And, as Mike Cherry just wrote in his book, "DF is a step leading towards turbine, no don't overlook that..."
Yes, I'll use the "big boy". So what technique would you recommand for the exhaust duct ? Making an exhaust duct plug with an emboss for the pipe, and then mold it with glass cloth ?
What do you tend to advocate now ? How do you build 'around it' ?

It's kinda hard to see in this pic, but my tuned pipe ran on the left side of the thrust tube. You can barely make out that the left side is bigger than the right.

RE: Take a look (F-15)
If I remember right, I figured the area of the cross section of the largest part of the tuned pipe and then increased the duct size on that side, by the same amount. The right side (smaller) oulet was 2 5/8". I don't remember what the larger side was, but it wasn't a lot larger than the smaller one.
That particular Regal Eagle was the best performing one that I built. It would get off a somewhat rough grass field in about 150' to 200' and I could climb out at around 45 deg as soon as I rotated. It weighed about 11.5 pounds with a Dynamax/OS.91/JMP pipe.

Hi Angel,
I'm fine thanks, back from holidays...
Very nice job ! I guess this one will be a rocket, it seems to have been kept on the light side.
The lack of retracts will prevent her from achieving high speeds but it will accelerate faster as it is lighter for sure. Why not go with a dolly ?
Are you with full moving elevators ? If so, are they configured as tailerons ?
Keep us posted !

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Hello Strykaas
I was thinking about that, for a long time. but I put a fix landing gear for now, for my field (grass). Then I could switch over to Robart set up later on as I get some more flights. All I have to do is remove the screws and switch gears. And then try takeoff loop!!!!!!!!!!
No Flying stab , just 30% area of elevator. and the flap, are flaperons.
8 1/2 pounds with fuel.
I had it at the field and tell the guys to pick up the jet, and they said its very light.
It started up on the first turn. that does not happen to me often. The low in was little rich to keep it cool. then went to full throttle
nice smoke trail. then the BVM mix was set up. Man this thing was winding up the fan. you know when it set up right.
Well I'll let you know how it turn out.

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Hello.........
Well I had a great time a Big Apple Jet Rally .
I took the F-15 there, and it flew great.
The take off, smooth and quick off the ground. Thats a plus for grass field.
And for the landing , I could keep the nose up while the mains on the ground, going down the runway.
I will try to get some vid. for you guys.
See ya

RE: Take a look (F-15)
Hello and Thanks
The first half of the flight was great . It took off at 3/4 throttle on the rich side. Then started to speed up to full throttle then I notice the rudder started
to flutter then it broke . The only thing that was holding it together was the monokote. I wish it would brake off, but I had to land it
with the rudder flapping round. They tought it was going in. but I recovered it in time. And make a nice landing. These jet guys said nice recover. I repaired it. I did one more check. Then went flying again. The C/G location was right on. A little more throws on the ali.
I use flaperons. Which worked great too. slow down to a craw. The Eng. work great sideways. As for speed, much faster then a Byron jet. And just a little less from a Y/A starfire. It was moving.
I will fly it again at our field ( grass ) this week.
I'll let you know how it went.

Did you have any functional rudder ? Or was it a rudderless flutter ?
