Bypass
Hi , When I got my first Bypass for my P-120 a long time ago.... it was a Ram1000 Bypass sent to me , It didnt fit you will need to cut holes for the probe ect, but not very pretty good luck..

BV F-4 bypass
All of the JetCATs fit in that bypass, BV even lists them on the plans.
The F-4 bypass is larger than the Bandit bypass so you do not have to cut the EGT probe clearance slot. You can use the strap mounts or the new JetCAT rigid mounts made for this bypass, either the P-120 or P-160.

BVM RAM1000/Jetcat P120/P160 compatable?
The 120 fits the F-4 bypass fine. I installed one in mine early this spring and just installed one this last weekend when Vernon Montgomery "Made the Switch!"

BVM RAM1000/Jetcat P120/P160 compatable?
Matt and David,
Just want to be clear here, BVM sells 3 turbine installation kits (different part numbers) for the F-4 (AMT,Jetcat and RAM) Is there really no difference in the bypass shapes, mounting tabs ,etc...?
The inside of my bypass has the initials "R F-4"
I understood this to mean "R" = RAM

Unless he has changed something
there are 2 basic bypasses
The AMT is for the pegasus (or whatever it is called now). It is bigger in diameter, not sure about the mounting "ears". As for the 3 different part number you should check with BVM.
The other is for JetCAT, I doubt BV is even recommending a RAM 1000 at this point.
You know it is a funny thing after flying mine for a few flights. If you think about the AMA rules, the way they used to be you would only be allowed to run a .9 to 1 turbine in that plane.
So mine weighs 25.5 pounds dry, so I could run 22.95 pounds thrust motor under the old rules. Not fun.
I can't believe ANYBODY would defend .9 to 1 anymore after seeing in real life what it means on a plane like the F-4.

I wish I had a royalty agreement on that "Make the Switch" line, but then I would owe half to my continuous inspiration, the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company (the center of all things righteous in this world)

Matt,
QUOTE]Boy things have sure changed in less than a year! We will have a good time at Superman swapping stories! Did you hear where the JetCAT tent is going to be? [/QUOTE]
You got that right!!!
Your figures on the Thrust of course is the installed thrust. I have not measured it yet on this one but on my old F-4 I was right at 23.5#. I feel like the P-120 is pushing the airplane better, with better vertical performance. Vernon had the same opinion of his as well. BTW I did find myself flying the majority of the flight in the upper 20% of stick travel, I really need to setup a throttle curve for it.

yeah
but the old rules did not recognize installed thrust either. Some have wanted to do away with that as well!! Nuts!
So with the old rules you would have been lucky to have 20.5 pounds installed thrust in an F-4!! All that with a 32+ pound take off weight!!
The F-4 type designs suffer the most under the original rules. Heavy, draggy, and bifurcated thrust tube

BVM RAM1000/Jetcat P120/P160 compatable?
In my opinion...... (and I have argued this for years now) is that the T/W is really a bad way to try and regulate these airplanes. You know that with .9 to 1 T/W you can make a Bandit go very fast, but with .9 to 1 in a draggy airframe like a Phantom, or F-15 the airframe itself limits top speed. I know you have a speedlimiter installed in your F-4 but I would really be interested in knowing what kind of top speeds you are seeing. I would bet that you are not going that much faster than me with the extra thrust. The F-4 is extremely draggy, add some ordinance and you have almost a pig in the air. (But one helluva fun pig!) I think the best thing to do would be to limit speed, that is if you have to limit anything. It is the speed not the thrust after all that gets us into trouble.

The reason there is 3 part #'s for the BVM Phantom install kits is there is a scatter shield for the ram install kit. I think its also more expensive. This is for reasons we all, or at least most of us can understand. Just ask anyone on the list formerly displayed by David Ried or Tony F.

I "Made the switch"
Ok, looks like a P120 will push this Phantom fine and RELIABLY.I guess it wouldn't hurt to install the Kevlar band since I already had it for the RAM!

This is what happens when you hang around D.R all weekend. He gave T.R a "small stick" but kept the "big stick". (JK)

Hey Hey Hey......now I did not do anything!!!!!!!!! I am innocent,,,, All I did was pushed another modeler over the edge and HELPED him "Make the Switch" he actually made the switch because his peice-o-crap would not start. Sorry I just don't see why I would need to carry a magnet to place the whodo hex on my engine prior to every flight.
Jake,
You made the right choice. Enjoy it.....just remember the Phantom is definetly a power on machine.

Have you installed your motor yet? I have had decent luck with this installation, advantage is tons of weight in th enose (I have a short nose version
