The instructions say cut the stock antenna about one inch from receiver then solder on Hayes. This doesnt leave very much room to position your antenna. This only lets you install the antenna about 6-7 inches from receiver.
Why so close to receiver and can it be cut farther away with no problems?

Scott,
I spoke with the owner and creator of the Hayes antanae at Toledo last year. I asked him the same question, and he said the length of the rx cut does not affect the operation of the setup. They recommend at least one inch so that you have enough length to easily solder the two ends together. I'll repeat the obvious; range check, range check, range check!
