Default Local Airport Will Not Sell Me Jet-A!

I called the FBO at the local airport to go get some Jet-A.
I explained what I needed it for and he told me they were not allowed to put Jet-A in anything other than an aircraft.

Is this really a law or just an FBO rule?

If I mount some styrofoam wings and a propeller to my gas can, is it technically an airplane? lol

It's definitely just an FBO rule. You could bring your jet to show him,or just run K-1.Good luck!!

It's just FBO policy. They don't want to be sued if the fuel causes some sort of accident. They are afraid that you will sue them if your plane crashes or even worse if your plane hits someone or their property that person sues you, the fbo, the radio maker, the plane manufacture, etc, etc,etc...........

What a wonderful, lawsuit happy society we live in!

Check with a different FBO if there are any, or go to the FBO around midnight - they usually take samples of the fuel and then chuck it. You might be able to get a gallon or so - or even the guy might sell it to you when his boss isn't around.

I just bought a bunch of K-1 @ Home Depot for $5 per 5 gal can. They were getting rid of their winter inventory. It's usually $19.95 per 5 gal.

Our FBO loves to give us Jet-a for free...As long as it doesn't go through the meter..Its a numbers thing..

The maint. peaople here also have a reclaim tank. Funny how after you take fuel out of a plane you can.t put it back. During the summer its easy to get. In the winter it gets harder to get because every one uses it in the kero heaters...

If you are getting it from a reclaim tank check it for sediment and and water...

Oh yea if you are comming to Tennessee Jets. He will give some to you for free too...

well this afternoon I grabbed my gas can and drove up to the airport.
I had my wallet in one hand and the can in the other lol

They sold me some fuel, but they made me go out by some hangars and drove the fuel truck to me because "they don't want anyone see them giving me Jet-A because it is not legal".

I told him that there was nothing illegal about it and gave him a nice shiny new nickel and told him there was more where that came from!

take your airplane out so they can see what you are doing with it. if they understand you are not up to no good with it they will probably not flinch. are you going over to rockwall? i know the fbo there.

Shok,

If you have an "Ace hardware" affliated store around, they can usually order K-1 Kero in 2.5g jugs or 5g drums for you. If they don't already have some in stock. My local Ace hardware store had 2 pallets of the 2.5g plastic jugs and about 10 5g drums.

And like Gary said, keep an eye at Home Depot, they usually have a few cans. By the way thanks again Gary for the heads up on the sale a few weeks ago. I'm stocked up for the summer.

for a long time i have been using kerosine from the hardware sore in 5 gal buckets, but reacently found a local gass station that sells it ... when filtering it, the kero from the station is actually cleaner and has less crap in it than the stuff from the sealed bucket !! i have been using the gas station stuff now .... (then again, it is a new gass station, so in a year i might be back to the buckets )

at houston hobby airport we get our jet a for free.....if you check you will find the fbo s who test their tanks cant put it back into the plane because the delivery system is not approved....so they have to pay 3 bucks a gallon to dispose of it..... they store it in white 55 gallon drums on wheels....my buddy would rather save his company the money so he gives it to me...i also use an fbo in austin and last month the gm showed up at a fly in in austin and he said he would do likewise for the austin gang...so pat ( or any of you austin guys ) pm me and i`ll tell you were to go

Hi,

I work for an FBO here in Georgia. I think you got the lazy lineservice answer over the phone. If you go to your local FBO and talk with a manager, (maybe bring the jet too.) They should be more cooperative.

Have you tried Epps at PDK? http://www.controller.com/dealers/de...p?guid=&CID=38
