besides the JetCat P200 and the AMT olympus, what other manufacturers carry 45 lbs thrust turbines ? if available, what are people's experiences with these ?? I am currently in need of 2 45 lbs engines ... (well, 1 45 lbs engine and 1 with 35+ )
thanks !

RE: 45 lbs turbines ?
I was flying my BVM F4 this weekend with the AMT NL Pegasus HPES. This engine is rated (I think conservatively) at 36 pounds and is an absolutely superb piece of engineering with a terrific sound and excellent fuel economy. The engine starts and runs beautifully and has excellent throttle response, too. They are not cheap but AMT NL delivers a first class product and first class service to match. I believe an HPES version of the Olympus is now available with a thrust rating of around 45 pounds.
Although I write for RCJI I'm not a rep. and I pay for my engines but it always gives me great pleasure to give support to first class products and the Pegasus HPES certainly is just that.
Regards,
David Gladwin.

yea, i looked up the prices of AMT - NL engines, and in USD the olympus was coming out to over $7500 at the current rate !!!
the amt-usa at400 and 450 look like good reliable engines, and i am slowly starting to think about those more and more ...... for $4195 the 450 is not that badly priced (yea, i know, no gsu, autostart , or starter ..... , but i don't think i would really mind the scuba tank much, plus i already have one for whn i play paintball anyway .. )

OK, it's Rafale !
I just hope you are not going to put 45lb engines to your 2 new Gripen.
By the way, the Gripens will arrive soon. I will call you for some detail.

I just did the currency conversion on the AMT Netherlands Olympus and it comes out to $5,500 for the airstart and around $500 more if you want the Data terminal and the auto-start unit.
After the nightmare I went through with AMT USA recently with purchasing the AT 400 I think I would rather pay the difference in the Euro and receive a proven engine that actually runs when it is shipped! I plan to do just that next month and order a new Olympus from AMT Netherlands. Their website doesn't say anything about it but on the back cover of the last RCJI the ad for AMT Netherlands shows the new Olympus HP (51.7 lbs) electric start being offered at the same price. That's what I'm going for!

Kim Gardner

Kim ,
what kind of nightmare have you gone through with AMT usa ? would you care to share what the problem was ? support is one of the key elements in what im looking for .... what was the problem with the at400 that you got ?? how was it resolved and how quickly ??
as for price, the AMT netherlands site sells the Olympus for € 4947,00 (excluding the VAT) and that comes out to be $6074.42 USD with todays conversion ... thats almost $2k more than US .... kind of on the picey side ....

RE: 45 lbs turbines ?
Wojtek,
To write the whole story from start to when I've decided to bail on AMT USA would probably take me a couple hours for me to type and I don't care to do that. I've already wasted to much time on this on the phone with AMT USA to want to grind an ax on the jet page.
To make it short:
In the past I have purchased one each of AMT USA's different models of engines (AT-180, AT-280, AT-450) and couldn't say enough good about them. However, since purchasing these first 3 engines three years ago and the AT 400 now, something dramatic has changed at AMT USA. Someone that once was there is no longer there I guess. Anyone know ? It's a whole different experience now. Heck, I've left three messages for Jim Weigle and he can't even be bothered to return my calls. (And as I understand, my business isn't going to make or brake him anyway.) But four or five years ago he answered the phone. Go figure.
Customer support? If you happen to be lucky enough when you call to get someone that..........................enough already! If you want all the poop I went through just call me. I can speak faster than I type. Besides I would rather be building than typing.
As to your second question:
1.What is your plane worth?
2. Do you expect to receive what you paid for?
