the 15 is fixable. i had not flown anything since tuscon (february) got cocky on the second flight and started to do a few touch and go's. too slow for rudders and nose steering was not effective (not on ground) and caught the snout in the catch fence. ripped it off. should not have let it get that close in... dumb thumbs. very fixable, just really don't want to right now.

Pat,

I saw you at the event and wanted to meet you, but I didn't have the chance. I wasn't sure if I could cross the spectator line.

Besides meeting you in person, I wanted to ask you if you were pushing the OS .91 on your F-15. I noticed that the F-15 is very stable at slow speeds, and it seemed to me like it wasn't very fast. I may use an OS .91 on my YA F-16, but I want to mke sure it hauls ass!!.

Please advise.

David

David, I had a Yellow A/C F-16 a long time ago powered with an OS 91 and Dynamax and I could barely get it to take off.

A friend of mine showed me where I was supposed to cut two small auxilary inlet holes above the main inlet.
After that, the plane took off in about 200ft and flew about 140mph.

I don't know if Yellow ever updated the intake but back then it just wasn't enough air.

most folks just walked around the end of the rope next to prices trailer...

the os 91 can push the yellow f-16C around pretty good. back in the day i think kevin had his clocked at 195 on the speed traps. that was a big time split s dive type speed run. 170's were the norm. you will want to open up the auxiliary inlets in the chine just above the inlet as much as possible. that was on the c model. we were also using mickey's modified dynamax units.

mine can go a bit faster, the 15 is a pretty draggy, but i also richen it up all the way after I take off. . i am not that interested in the 10 mph faster it might go, i just don't want to buy anything else related to df. although i have been collecting quite a bit of os 91 stuff lately.

Pat,

I think you mean the A model. I have the "C" polyester version model which I believe has a different ducting. For example, if I open holes on the ECS RAM inlet, all the additional air would go to the inside of the fuselage, not the ducting, unless I open holes on the intake liner, which would most likely collapse.

David,

I am pretty sure he was talking about the C model as well the flat spot right above the inlet towards the back poen up a slot about 2" long and the height of the flat part. (That hardly makes sense even to me and I know what I am talking about!) The area right above the inlet.

We had around 20 pilots show up this year and there was plenty of flying to be had by all!! I was only able to be there two of the 3 days because of work, but I was still able to get around 15 flights in that time. Bob Covish's !QUOT!hanger queen!QUOT! King Cat even got 3 or 4 flights on it even with the inadvertent gravity/gear check in the start-up area on Friday.

Greg Pulcini put a lot of work into this event this year and he and the other NDRCC members who worked to make it possible should be commended for a wonderful event. The Fajita dinner on Saturday evening was excellent! (although I would vote to add cow to the menu next time)

Mike Jensen's F-4 Phantom won 3 of the awards:
Best scale
People's choice
Pilot's choice
I believe Steven Ellzey got best sport for his Miss America King Cat.
I think it was Brian Gates who won best military for his F-86.

The radio raffle was won by someone from Rockwall who's name we did not recognize.

Bob Covish, Steven Ellzey, Dawn Ellzey, Mike Jensen, Scott Marr, and myself won the drawings for the sponsor's goody bags.

Hopefully Greg will chime in here and correct my mistakes.

I'm sure Greg would appreciate any praise you might want to bestow on him for his work, and he might even listen to a little constructive criticism if you offer that up too.

hey Kevin, that was Bob Laserve, the builder of my AV8R.
We was tore up about the crash but when Greg called and told him he won the radio he felt much better

Also i think he is going to bite the bullet and buy his first turbine this week after attending the ralley.

OK David, I think I know what you are saying now. You mean to cut open a 2" long hole through the top inlet and inside ducting to increase air flow, am I right?

Man that would look horrible. I'd rather take a 20 mph hit and not do it at all. Or even better, I would WREN the hell out of it.

It really does not look that bad. The Wren would be a fair choice, one of my Buddies did a RAM 500 version, and another did a 750 version.....personally I liked the performance of the 750 version a WHOLE lot more. He used a speed limiter and kept the high end speed to 175 but had a blast with the vertical performance.

Kevin

Thanks for reminding me about the gear check. It cost me $100.00 for that gear check. Now that I have my 20 flights in, I won't have to fly now until 2007. Back to being a "hanger queen".

Brian Gates won best military with the 86.

I think the dumb thumb award should go to Bill Kinney for leaving his wings at home.

Thanks to Greg Pulcini and the club for putting on a great event.

shok has it right on. if you look at the ductwork, there is a provision for this inlet area. you just have to lay a bit of glass over the top from the inside to close it off and keep the air flowing in the ductwork. it really helps on takeoff more than anywhere else..

Hey, you guys who were not in Dallas missed a great event. Excellent weather, good food, lots of flying time. I got 20 flights in on three planes. Came home and put all the hardware on the mantle...wonder how long they will last there. The wife noticed them right away and indicated they would be removed soon!! Thanks for the hard work Greg. Looking forward to an even bigger event next year.

A quick wrap up on the DFW JET RODEO.
What a fantastic 3 days of flying. Weather cooperated, despite all the doom and gloom the weather forcasters predicted. What the heck do they know anyway! Had one passing shower hit the field between 2am - 6am Saturday morning. By 7:00am, all was well.

Awards:

Best Military - Mike Jensen
People's Choice- Mike Jensen
Pilot's Choice - Mike Jensen
Best Flight Performance - Brian Gates
Best Sport - Steven Ellzey
Top Gun - Brian Gates

Damages:

The Pilots, Crowd and Workers, killed 140 lbs of BBQ, 75 burgers, 100 hot dogs, and 75 sausage links! Pilots dinner Saturday evening, sucked down 40 lbs of Chicken Fajitas! ( I think it was great of Kevin Whitlow to volunteer to cook up the beef fajitas for next year!) No Problem.

One airplane totaled, one damaged, the rest of em either in one piece or minor stuff.

Thanks to our sponsors:
AHD, Handibond Glue
Bob Violett Models
Kyosho / Great Planes
SR Batteries
Major Decals
Fox
McCoy
Model Airplane News
Zinger Props
and a host of others with discount certificates for products.

Most of the pilots walked away with something decent.

Disappointments: We had a good turnout and I certainly appreciated the pilots that made it to the event, however, we were a bit short on pilots. Nice facility, great runway, good food, music, great crowd particpation...Why so many no shows? I'm listening!

That's the place.

Greg,

I already gave you my excuse family always comes first. Another factor for the MS Gang was Tennessee Jets this weekend. Kinda like the Shreveport event coming up in July it is the weekend before Odessa, or the Ozark event being on the same weekend as the long running Greater Southwest. Maybe the event orginizers in an area ought to get together and plan at least a week off between events. While I would like to attend an event every weeekend it just is not feasable.
