Default F-101 Kit

Guy's I have found someone to do the F-101. We are looking at a plane in the range of about 100 inches. It would be a limited run of planes in the area of 12 to 15 planes. I am aware of the love some of us have for this bird. The kit would run about $4400 for the kit plus gear. It will be a fully molded airframe . I need to know if you would feel that this a good venture or not. I love the plane and if I can get the idea in the works I think it would be a sweet plane.

The person interested in doing the plane is Dan Gill. So let me hear you on this one. Yes its a dream but I think it can become an awesome bird

Too late, I already mailed T.J. my deposit for the first dozen prepreg Voodoos. Otherwise I would take a dozen of yours.

Voodoo Child! That's too funny!
I'm sorry, I just could not resist. SOMEBODY was going to mention it. Better me than David Reid!

Whodaman, good luck with the project, in all seriousness. I think, though, you ought to get a prototype flying before really thinking about marketing, and what it will cost. It's awfully hard to start predicting the sale price if the thing has not been built yet.
I think one of the lessons learned as of late has been that there IS a big market for big, expensive jet kits, but people want proven flyability first. Only a few guys are willing to be the guinea pig on un unproven $7k kit (say, the CAI F100), but they will be lining up out the door on one that is well tested(say, the BVM F100).
Good luck with the project. Will it be a single or twin?

You're just jealous because I got my deposit in before you! My workbench is cleared, and I am hiring some guys away from BVM and Tamjets to assemble my fleet o' Voodoos. Gonna be a big cloud of silver birds above all the big jet meets...good luck getting the frequency pin when I show up...

Default F-101 Project

Now wait a minute guys,

I told whodaman what potential costs would be on such a project, but never said I would want to do one. Sorry Dave...I guess I put my foot in my mouth by saying so much huh? The guys are right about the testing thing. No kit should be sold until it has been fully tested. The full scale Voodoo has many quirks when flying and a model would not be much fun on the first flight, so let's put the whole thing in perspective ok. Talk is a fine thing, but usually, when all is said and done, not many can foot the bill for a fully molded jet, let alone design and kit one.

Happy Flying,

Dan

I don't mean to take away from your project, I think it's a worthwhile thing to do, and I think you guys can certainly make a viable, flyable model. It just may be a little early to project a price for it, better wait until it's a bit further along before you even speculate!
Good luck, and keep us posted...

Default F-101

Maybe I didn't say this right...

There is no project to set a price for...This was casual conversation that obviously got out of hand. The $$$ amounts discussed were for just that, discussion. No mention of labor costs were even discussed. I hope this clears this thing up. I don't want rumors spreading about a F-101 that quite frankly from my point of view will never exsist. Or at least not one that I'll be doing.

Sorry Dave for the mess,

Dan

Default F-101 Kit

Hey Guys Im a german guy, I want to build a f101 voodoo on my own but i don't have any acceptable plans to do that.

I couldn't find any books with 3 views or something like that.

Does anyone know where to get a detailed 3 view or a book in which i can find one, or any website which has one.

If anyone of you has a detailed 3 view of the f101 voodoo please e-mail it to me!

Thanks!

Default Voodoo Drawings

Hi f101voodoo,

Look for DETAIL & SCALE on the Voodoo...they have the drawings you are after. Alternatively, I believe KOKUFAN (Japanese) will probably have them too but are difficult to get.
