Carbon Fiber Re-enforcement?
Hi everyone,
I am almost finished building my JHH F-86 but I think I need to re-enforce the rear fuselage and am wondering how I can do this. Any pressure on the vertical and horizontal stabs causes the fuse to flex laterally. There is a rib in the rear of the fuse but it doesn't extend the whole way around which seems to be the reason that I am still getting the flexing. I was thinking that maybe I could use carbon fiber laminated around the circumfrance of the fuse to stiffen it but this is my first jet project so I'm unfamiliar with carbon fiber and want to know if you folks think it will do the trick.
Thanks!
Chris

CF Reinforcement
Yes a few circumferential bands of 1" CF tape spaced a few inches apart should do the trick. Or one band of 6" cf tape will work but may add too much tail weight.
Makes sure you use a high strength, high quality epoxy, like WEST Systems. Also, rough up the existing inside of the fuse, prior to applying the epoxy and cf tape, with 80 grit sand paper. Clean the area with acetone, then apply tape and epoxy.
CF and epoxies available from us.

CARBON
Hi
Contact Larry Wolfe from JHH and he will
fax you a couple of bulkheads for the F86 tail.
I do it on my JHH F-86 Wren turbine powered
and it works!
Regards,
Pedro

Thanks for the replys. I will contact Larry and get ahold of those plans. Good to know that I can go the carbon fiber route as well.
Thanks again,
Chris
