Default Agressor is painted!!

Hi guys, Ive been working for the past 3-4 weeks on saving this jet. I bought it last Fall from Brian Miller (powerflite). It took some imagination and some PPG. Hope you guys like it, it is the first project I paint with an airbrush.

This is what I purchased

Awesome, David!

I am building an old Aggressor1 that I picked up off of EBay awhile ago. Almost ready for paint, but can't decide how I want to paint it.

I like the scheme you did. What paints/colors did you use??

Thanks,

Jeff

Looks good. Hopefully it will fly as nicely as it looks. I'm trying to get an aggressor flying again as well. Do you have the control throws for the plane?

Jeff,

I used OMNI paint, it is Old White and Coral Reef. The red tone is a rookie mistake, it should have been deeper.

This paint was really affordable and easy to use, give it a try.

I don't have the control throws for this jet. I will be using 1/2" on ailerons and 1/2" on elevators, with D/R as back up. It shouldn't require more than that, specially at 170 mph.

Good Luck!

I do find the airframe to be very light, but the engine is not installed, everything else is.

Brian Miller?

Thats a name I have not heard in a long time.
Does he post here, do you have a contact for him?

Is this the Brian Miller that sold his Byron F-15 to Mickey Edmonds a long time ago?

Ronnie, I have no idea if Bryan sold a Byron F-15 or not, I only met him when I bought the airplane. No, he doesnt post here at all. The only time I've seen him at RCU was when I purchased the Agressor. Very nice guy to deal with!!

I have been looking for him for about 8 years. We used to be very good friends, he lived close by but we lost touch over the years.

Does anybody have a set of used wheels/brake that I could use on this jet? I think they should be 2.25".

Also, does anyone have any experience with this jet? Any tips?

The only jet I've flown is my former F-16, I have no other ducted fan experience. I assume I can deal with the speed, but how does the Agressor handle on landng? flaps?
Thanks in advance, David

Hi David,

Per the Aggressor II plans the control throws are:

Elevator 1/2" up and down
Aileron 1/2" up 5/16" down

Pretty to close to what you have.

As to landing, they land real easy if you kept the weight down. We have one that is around 15 years old and it still flies great. Mix some down elevator with your flaps, about 3/32" with full flaps would be a starting point. On the first flight get it up and trimmed out, spend a few minutes getting used to it, then work on slowing it down. Do a few laps at half flap, then full flap, then with the gear down. Try shooting the first approach at no latter than 4 minutes into the flight. Try to limit the first flight to no more than 5 minutes, those are fairly small tanks in there. If every thing is set up close to right the model will land at a very slow controllable speed, so do not get spooked about landing it, it is easy.

Here's my Aggressor 1 as of this evening. All I have left to do is install the landing gear struts, rig servos, and final sand before paint.

STill haven't decided on a paint job, but am down to a few choices.
I'm pretty anxious to get this bird in the air!

Good luck with yours, David, and don't forget to give us a flight report.

Brg,

Jeff

JEFF,

It's looking sweet!!

Where are you locating the fuel tanks, and how are you setting up the nose gear doors? Are you using air cylinders for the doors?

Default RE: Save an Agressor project, almost done!!

David,

My Aggressor is an earlier version than yours, and does not have gear doors standard.
Originally, the plans called for wire struts, but I have modifed the airframe for Robostruts. To do this, I had to open up the gear wells a bit. I plan on fabricating partial doors for the mains that attach to the struts, and cover about 1/2 of the wheel.
As far as a nose door, I haven't decided if I should do it or not. If I do go that route, I will use an air cylinder to close/open the door.
It should be a simple splice into the nose retract air lines, with a Du-Bro wheel collar to restrict airflow to the 'door close' line of the cylinder. That way, I can restrict the airflow to the cylinder to time the door closing until after the gear retracts.
If you deside to go with a air cylinder, drop me a line, I have an extra I'll give you, since you were so kind as to allow me to steal your paint job idea! lol

The main fuel tanks are located in between the wing spars, and I am locating a 4 oz hopper tank in the canopy area, forward of the inlets.
I have the stock BVM saddle tanks that came with the kit (18oz total), but may go to larger Sullivan ducted fan tanks, that are 22 oz per pair. Not sure yet if they will fit, but at worst, I lose $10.

Brg,

Jeff

Default RE: Agressor is painted!!

Jeff,
Im going to trial fit my 11OZ Sullivans tonight. I will let you know if they fit.

18oz doesn't seem like a lot. I also have a conical shaped fuel tank that fits into the carburator fairing of the Viofan. It should give me enough fuel for start/taxi/takeoff.

If you have a spaer set of 2.25 wheels with brakes I'll buy them from you. I think $150 is way too much for either BVM or Trim, for this jet anyway.

L8r,

David
