Default TGA MIG 29

My neighbor just gave me his mostly built Top Gun Aircraft Mig 29 Byron (He's gettin' hitched). Retracts are installed, whole tail section is glassed, 1.5 of wings are glassed (Upper right needs glassing). I'm not sure this thing is my cup of tea, I'm into 1/4 scale aerobatic gas stuff, not jets. Should I put this up for auction? How much?

Build it and give it back as a wedding gift. He'll need a "break" on Saturday and Sunday mornings...

built amd ready to fly they are worth about $1200.00. For what you have the kit is $400- $600. With motor and fan another $400+ and another $150 for retracts. So you can see you got an excellent deal. You wannna trade for either a GP Giles or H9 Cap. Both new never flown. The giles is RTF the Cap is almost completed with a ys120.

That's sweet BalsaBob. I think I'll end up selling it though, I'm into to many things / projects to break into jets in the next few years. I'm WAY into High powered rocketry and barely find time to mess with my RC stuff.

Yes, you're probably right "FOShowNoClass " I truly tried to talk him out of giving this thing away, but he insisted. I told him he was nuts and would regret this. He assured me I would get more out of this than he ever would whether I sold it or flew it. He's seen me tuning up my FPE powered EDGE in the front yard, which is how we met. He keeps his copters though.

If I sell this bird, I could build a carbon fiber 8-10' x 4" diameter rocket and fly it to 25,000 or 30,000 feet at Mach 2 for my Tripoli Level 3 certification.

Decisions, decisions.

JJ,

LOL Yeah, I understand. A 10-foot tall rocket going Mach 2? I hope I'm not at work flying when you shoot that thing off! That must really be something. I have a TGA Mig as well being built, but I have flown one.. The thing is a dream. I rarely fly so it'll be nice to have an honest plane for a change. I'd hang on to it...it may grow on you. Plus, I don't believe they make them anymore in the regular ducted fan version. It may be a special order item. I see you are in Lake In The Hills. I used to live in Rolling Meadows when I flew out of O'Hare. Beautiful area! Nice little airport out there, too. Good luck!

Nice looking birds,Terry. Don't worry Will, we fly 100 miles from Ohare and our launches are directly coordinated with the FAA, as well as the BATF. I just might put my MIG on mothballs for awhile after listening to you guys, and that's right, their website says special order only for this kit.

Hi Guys,
I am about to start work on mine, and was thinking about making mine with full flying stabs. Any thoughts on the flying stab pivot mech?

that would be alot of weight behind the CG that would have to be made up in the front end. It has been done with the F15 and the USRCJC web site shows how it was done. I tried to come up with a method but it got to complicated.

Well, while jets are not my forte', full flying anything becomes a huge flutter prevention issue (even in prop power), is it worth the authenticity?

Terry, how hard would this be to convert to turbine power?

Easy!!!!!!!!!! Just install a thrust tube and change the engine and fuel tanks.
Here is how Dwayne Woods did it.

I've gotten some email inquiries and I have to go into the attic this weekend to get it down for some digital pics. I'll probably shoot a dozen or so so you can see everything he's done and all of the hardware and such so I'll probably just post a link to a zip file containing all of the pics (If that's allowed here). Maybe this should be in the auction area? Never done that before.

I'll try to post pics here when I get em'.

BTW:FOShowNoClass , I've been in Lake in The Hills for 3 years, and the only times I've caught the airshow was cuz' I was mowing the lawn and saw a Super Chipmunk doing tailslides (2002), and a squadron of P51 Mustangs flew over my house (2003), both times I ran into the house for my Bushnells. This year I followed up and bought a local newspaper and got the info to actually be there. It's this Saturday. Should be great!

Later guys

Well, pics are coming, never made it into the attic last weekend.

The P51 Mustang never made it to the show, and no-one ever offered an explanation to us (the audience), the wingwalkers'(Dave Darcy) Super Stearman wouldn't restart after the post introduction flight refueling, although they tried feverishly for hours. There were still some exciting flights though, especially the " Jim Maroney Super Chipmunk" bit. That guy was by far the most exciting performance, and it lasted for something like 20 minutes! I did see a T28 make a few laps though, as well as another "Super Stearman" flown by Susan Dacy, what a sight, LOUD PROP!!!!!!

Anyway, I'll get into the attic next time I have an hour.
