20th annual Greater Southwest Jet Rally
The 20th annual greater southwest is being hosted by Waco's HOTMAC club on September 6th thru 8th this year at their club field near Lake Waco. I have posted the event flyer and hotel information for this years event on the Austin RC Association website at
www.austinrc.org
This is the same field that ended up hosting the event after rain washed out the primary site last year with many improvements. The HOTMAC field is a dedicated R/C facility with a 800' x 70' runway. This year they have doubled the parallel pit area and added two more taxiways. They have also removed numerous trees around the site. It's one helliva site. The club is planning a steak dinner for the pilots friday night. Please RSVP with Max Blose the event CD for the dinner at [email protected]

I will be there
I will bring the Rig II and land it right on the new
pavement.
You don't mind if the heat from the turbine
chips and cracks the runway, do you.. ?
You should see my Driveway..

The ol F-16
Pat,
I think it was the 10th Greater Southwest (in Lockhart?) that somebody had an F-16 that was originally flown at the first Southwest fan fly back in '82....
Any idea if that thing is still around and if so is anyone planning on bringing it out?
Might be pretty wacky to see an 20 year old DF flying around with all these turbines hehehe
Hank

SA Hobby Shops
Two that I use - the main one is Rebel Hobbies on Basse Rd just inside Loop 410 (just west of the airport). The other is 2nd Chance Hobbies in Universal City (about 15 min NE os SA on
I 35). Both well stocked but NO jet stuff. Rob Puetz and myself are the only jet guys in town. As for flying fields the one we use in the SA area is Seguin Air Force Aux field in Seguin,TX., 30 min East of SA on I-10. Normally a few flyers on Sat and Sun morning. We can only use the field when the AF is not flying T-38s and T-6s out there. For fields/clubs there are several more, none jet friendly. It's a crime that a city the size of SA does not have a decent club facility. Bill Fowler is working on that but it's a couple of years off at the best. That's why I'm a member of the Austin club, home of the infamous "Austin Gang".

would not be a bad one to see, and well worth the side trip. apparently we may have a visit from BV himself. More information on the austin club website at www.austinrc.org
