Kingcat Landing Lights-INFO NEEDED
Hi guys.
I am very interested in installing landing lights on my Kingcat. I am looking for suggestions. Wing mounted or gear door mounted? If wing mounted, internal or external? What brand(s)?
Thanks guys
Robert

I already looked at them. As you may have noticed they have several options and I am looking for suggestions as to which one is the better option from that particular website. Other websites/brands would be appreciated as well.
Thanks
Robert

RE: Kingcat Landing Lights-INFO NEEDED
I talked to Paul Hopkins, who makes the lights for the Kingcat and chose the pod version for a couple of reasons:
1) You need to cut into the wings to install the in-wing version. Probably not a big deal, but still don't want to hit the wrong spot or accidently weaken anything.
2) They need to go further out on the wing than I would like because of the antenna tube. I think the lights look better a little closer in toward the boom.
3) Install is a bit easier.
If you decide to go with the in-wing version, I believe Larry Kramer has the templates.
Mine are on order.

Thanks. Can you give me his contact info. What's the wait for those?
Did you consider the gear door mounted ones? Why not?
Thanks
Robert

Robert, The lights look great and really show up nice when flying at dusk. I use the new 12 bulb set from Paul Hopkins. I do have the patterns if you would like to mount them in the wings. Keith is right you do need to mount them towards the tip to clear the antenna, I believe it's around 22 inches measuring from the outside of the boom, along the leading edge. If you use a whip antenna then they can mounted closer to the center. If you look back to the Mississippi Afterburner photo's you will see 2 pictures of my KingCat with the lights on, this will give you an idea of their placement.

Hi
You should look at "Surefire" P61 tactical weapon light beam unit complete with reflector @ $25 each !!! Xnenon bulb and ali reflector makes a great unit and is very very bright 125 lumens and that is bright. Run it from a Li Poly cell @ 3.7 volts ( 4.5 when fully charged) NOT @ 6 volts as shown on the side of the unit as they put a volt reg in the torch unit that it is made for. Mine works v well but blew out two units @ 6 volt so beware.
I simply wired them to a manual switch and bondedthis to a servo. No clever Fet switches as I am running a Wren turbine and dont want any poss of feed to the TX. Enclos pics showing installation in the wig tips of my Savex L 39 with Wren 44 turbine. Flies like a dream and costs 1/3 of a King Cat.. but they are obviously different animals.if you require any further info let me know.
Great lights on grey day !

I have just received a set of lights from Andy Lowe at Electrodynamics, they are extremely good, and very very bright even in Australian sunshine. The strobe light is particularly effective.
