While this isn't orbital.. this kind of thing has got to scare the hell out of NASA and company knowing they're this close without having to spend hundreds of billions of dollars.

Those fools that promote these ideas about the Apollo program being faked chap my a_ss worse than any other form of human scum. They dishonor all those who sacrificed so much, including their lives, to achieve JFK's goal. They should be ashamed for making up such bullsh_t. May Mike and Spaceship One taste success today!!!

I only have one question. Why can't the telescope (hubble) or another country either on earth or in space see the American Flag or vehicles that was left the moon ????. Just to end the speculation.

They're a little less than an hour away from launch (the launch vehicle is airborn) . CNN is covering it.

Not that it has anything to do with this thread, but the short answer most telescopes don't have the resolution. The long answer is, why waste the time, effort, and money to satisfy a few nut cases who think it was a conspiracy.

The Paranal observatory in Chile has the theoretical resolution to see the landers, but this Link shows that even the most powerful telescope on the planet can only resolve images down to about 50X50 meters at the distance of the Earth to the moon. That image was taken with only one of the 4 telescopes, if all 4 were used is where the theoretical resolution great enough to see the landers would be realized.

This Hubble Image shows how much lower the resolution of the Hubble is in comparison.

Chase pilot said he saw a little skin buckling near the left rear which may account for the hard jolts and trim issues Melvill felt. So Scaled has a bit of work to do.. but damned impressive any way you slice it.. Absolutely awesome.

Saw the contrail headed straight up into no where @ 7:50 am. Ran out of radio station range before hearing if it all went well.

Just saw news artical about this yesterday. A satilite orbiting the moon has photos of the desent stages on the surface. They dont show the flag... buy you can clearly see the area. Double shadows were from the earth and sun reflection. But you probably wont accept that any way.

Go Burt! Go USA!

It was great to watch! Experimental Rocketry is another one of my hobbies. Tim Pickens designed the hybrid rocket motor for Bert and is a good friend here that I have helped with Rocket motor test for years. It looks like all of his hard work has paid off!

Congratulations to the Team! Now go get the X-Prize!

Here is a link to some of the stuff Tim has done in the past.

This is a great accomplishment for Burt, Mike, Scaled, and basically the entire "grassroots" aviation community - as a Varieze builder and long-time Rutan fan, I am thrilled to finally see this project accomplish one of the few challendges still open to the private sector. Remember, Burt Rutan started out with RC models and basically developed most of the composite aircraft design and construction techniques used today.

There are still some significant issues to overcome - here is a link that provides more info than you'll get from the general news sites: [link=http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/sso_rutan_archive.html]SPACE.com[/link]

Geneh - Is your friend Tim associated with SpaceDev or Environmental Aeroscience Corp.? SpaceDev is located nearby (Poway, CA) and I have met a couple of the principals through my business. I was a member of PRS in the 70's/80's and was part of a team working on a hybrid motor, though with little success. Small world....

Tim does not work for either. He designed the motor for Burt and they decided to use Spacedev to pour the fuel grain. Although Tim did the designwork you may not here about him doing it anywhere else. Burt came to Huntsville a few years ago and asked Tim to do the work for him because he was impressed with some of the other things that he has done in the past.

Here are a few links.
