F-16 Cockpit and ejection seat
Hey Jayman,
Is this bird going to be turbine power? If so, you will be hard pressed to find room to fit all the components and still have room for the cockpit.
Second note: The glass is very thin around the intake area and where the intake blends into the fuse, you need to reinforce this high stress area (due to the nose gear) with some extra glass! This past weekend a slight overshoot of the runway (into low cut grass) caused some seperation of the intake from the fuse on my buddies YA-f16. Closer inspection of the damaged showed the glass in this area to be extremely thin and weak! This plane is not strong enough for grass field ops! Better to reinforce now than later

Y/A F-16
Hi Todd,
Yes the F-16 will have a Simjet 1200 inside. The bird I have now was actually owned by Shaun (YellowAircraft). We just traded projects. You are right about the lack of room. I trying to figure out where to stuff everything. Shaun has already beefed up the nose area for the very reason you mentioned. He made it looks scale with the brace in the middle io the intake. Hopefully I'll have it back in the air within the month.
John,
thanks for the tip on the seat. I'll post pic's when done.

Cockpit
Hi Jay,
The problem with this set up is it's not practical for a Turbine. To much time will be spent un-screwing everything for access and the tub is to big to allow all the component's to be installed. I am currently working on a method of making a one piece removable cockpit which will provide easy access to all the components, sort of the way you may see some jets at the field. I have also made the nose removable and have installed my braking and gear/ door seq. up there, in other words I have utilized every inch of space I have. I do have to agree that it looks great but for me not practical. Please keep us posted on your progress.
Regards,
Jaye

F-16 Cockpit and ejection seat
Hi,
I did manage to get everything in there, with the cockpit in place. I was using a Simjet 1200 at the time, and its components were bulkier than those of the P-80. I ended up attatching some of the components to the top and sides of the inlet with velcro.
Chaseman is correct, I also trimmed the lips of the cockpit deck to make it easier to take in and out. Fortunately, the Simjet 1200 had long leads so that the ECU didn't need to be right next to the engine.

Shaun,
Just wondering, if you were aware the fuse has a weak point at the inlet, why didn't you tell Jaye about this so he could have reinforced this area during the build?? I know you guys had talked a bit during his build and would have been open to hearing any information you could have provided. This would have been an easy problem to resolve having known this from the begining!
We spent the better part of the day today putting the intake back on his plane which was peeled off by a simple over-run into the grass.

Todd,
Hmmmm. Let's see......
Well, I seem to recall several conversations I had with Jaye. I discussed many aspects of the construction of the kit, however, I am not certain that I mentioned that particular reinforcement that I made. What I did do, though, was furnish him with several digital photos of my construction and installation. Among those were pics showing the addition. I recall speaking at length with him about various things I did in effort to make this DF kit build into a more suitable turbine airplane.
To the best of my information, mine was only the second of the new kits to fly on turbine power. Since it, like most Yellow kits, was a modified DF kit, there were many new and different things that happened during my construction. I'm not really sure it's fair to say that 'I was aware that the fuse has a weak point'. In fact, what happened was that after completing that stage of construction, I took a look at it (and pressed down on that area with the nose gear installed) and decided that I wanted to stiffen that area up for my turbine conversion. There was no secret information I was holding back at all. Hundreds of the older kits have flown for years without that mod, and many folks have retrofit turbines into their F-16s. I don't know what mods or reinforcements they made, I only know what I did. I have been freely sharing that information with many people since the kit came out.
Fact: Many of the builders to whom I've sold this kit have emailed me phone numbers, at my request (I'm hard to reach), so that I could call them and give help over the phone. Several of these people have made that reinforcement (you can call it a mod if you like) at my urging. I'm sorry that this advice somehow skipped Jaye--though I'm sure Jaye appreciates the time and effort I did take to furnish him with the hints and photos that I did offer.
Another fact: Not only did I make that reinforcement, but I documented the steps, and even made templates for the several people who've either purchased this kit from me or approached me for help with it. I've sent this to five customers of mine so far. My point? I do what I can to help.
Thanks for helping Jaye with his repair and with being a part of his success with that bird. If you have any other questions, comments or beefs (on someone's else behalf or your own) feel free to give me a call. 650-556-1214

Y/A F-16
Hi Ed,
I have seen video of this Y/A F-16 flying with the 1200 in it. All I can say is that it is impressive!!! I now have 10 flights on the Y/A Starfire with the 1200 and it is the perfect match. Most of flight is just above half throttle and she is fast! Tell Kevin I'll be looking for another 1200 for my Y/A Stingray soon and I'll send him that DVD soon.
You guy's have a great NEW YEAR!!!
Jay

Starfire with SimJet 1200
Hi Jay
That's great to hear. We'll have one tested and ready to go, just give the word. I'll pass the message on to Kevin.
Happy New Year to you and yours as well.
