Default Grass Jet Needed

There are a few of us that are interested in an entry level jet for grass operation. I am inclined to try one of Bob Parkinson's with the Byron/IronBay pusher and an OS .61FX, as he recommends.
Has anyone purchased a kit from Parkinson lately? What is the wait time? Has anyone tried the OS .61? I don't need the all out speed, I just need it to take off. Sounds like low cost fun doesn't it?

I emailed Bob Parkinson for a demo tape on his grass jets and it arrived in a week. Is there any reason a kit wouldn't?

Thanks,
chris

Gonna be underpowered with a .61FX.....probably O.K. coming off hard surface, but not grass.....

We've got lots of flights on grass cut to 5/8" with a BP F-15...SpringAir Retracts with wire struts all around......always ran Dynamax Fan with OS Max .91 D/F and JMP pressure pipe.......still required at least 300-350 ft to come off grass...even more on hot summer day.......very nice flyer in the air....about 90-100 MPH.....

Don't know much about BP's delivery schedule nowadays......

Always was a nice kit, when you could get one....

The 61FX is not a ducted fan engine; it is not a rear exhaust engine and won't turn the rpm's; it won't work at all. To have success you will have to have the OS 91 VRDF.

I thought the same thing about the OS.61, but Bob says it works. I wonder if the fan blades are set differently.

Have you thought about a Trim Aircraft Spectre? This one takes off in less than 250ft on an average grass strip. is relatively cheap with os91vrdf and ramtec fan will do around 200mph. Lands like a kitten aswell.

Hi,

These gentlemen are correct about the .61FX. That engine will not turn sufficient RPMs to move a jet on a Byrojet fan. If you ask anyone on here whether or not they've seen it actually happen, I think you'll see what I mean. If you're gonna do a jet, go ahead and get yourself an O.S. .91 fan engine. If you take care of it, it will last you as long as you're in DF.

I think TGA still has some in stock, I also know the local hobby shop here in the Fort has one in stock. Has the big head for Byron fan.[8D]

Hi,

Check with Tower Hobbies. If not, Yellow Aircraft has inventory of them. There may still be a few lurking around here for sale as well. Best of luck!
