i considered the same thing, i think the only minor problem would be if/when you ever had to belly it in, it would not slide to well and may cause damage. try it , let us/me know if you have any problems .

i think as wide as the gear is spread out by default, you wont gain much in terms of ground stability with the wheels an extra 1 - 1.5 " apart ... retracted i dont think 1/2 the thickness of the wheel stickin down would much more drag than the whole in the fuselgage as it is anyway, ... i personally would not bother, i dont think there is enough (if any) benefit .. if anything, one modification you can try ( i did not do this on my rookie, but just an idea) is to shim the front rails of the retracts so the wheels sit aft more wnen extended (wont afect retracted position much) ... this can help prevent the plane from wheeling its nose up on bumps, as the CG is very close to being right over the mains and the nose wheel is lightly loaded ..

hmm wow, thats more than i though .,.. however i still think the stance by default is wide enough to be no trouble at all .... i guess trying it the wider way would be no problem as all you have to do is flip the wheels and axles around ...
