Default Can you spray water mist into turbine?

I was looking over my turbine and noticed that I have light grass stains and slight build up at the compressor. Has anyone tried spraying water or some other mixture into the compressor to clean it while it's idling? Is this Crazy?

Thanks

RC Man,

You can conduct a compressor wash of your engine in the following manner.

Get hold of a spray bottle, the type used for some house hold cleaning sprays, these have an adjustable nozzle that can be set to a very fine spray, make sure it is clean and then fill it with distilled water, do not put any form of cleaning agent in it, use only distilled water and nothing else.

You are going to be working near the intake of a running turbine engine so be fully aware of the suction hazard and ensure that you have no loose clothing or loose items around that could be sucked into the engine.

Start the engine and set it up to run at just above idle, then holding the spray head of the spray bottle about 3 inches from the front of the compressor intake, spray the water directly into the engine intake.

The engine note will change and you will get a slight increase in the thrust of the engine, one of these bottles holds about a pint of water, pump the whole pint through the engine in a steady and controlled manner, once the bottle is empty allow the engine to run for about 30 seconds then do a normal shut down.

This will clean the compressor blades and the diffuser vanes and wedges.

BRG,
Chris.

Han (AMT disigner) took a water hose on full
blast and shot it right into a Olympus at full power.
The turbine keep right on running.

Jim W and Han told me this and Jims side of the
story was something like this "You know what
that crazy MF did "

If you call JW @ AMT he will tell you to use a spray bottle with a soapy solution ( like Joy ) use 85% water to 15% solution. Crank the motor up to about 50% and spray it real good several times. Bring back to idle for a brief ( about a minute ) time and run up to full power for about a minute or so.. Thats what he told me..... Ray Blair AMT Rep.
