Been flying rc prop planes for about five years, don"t know anything about jets. Any advice on a first plane/turbine?
Our club has about 900 feet of cut grass and about 200 feet of hard runway, is this enough for a jet to take off and land?
how much can i expect to spend to get started? I already have a 9c radio.
Apreciate any help you can give.

Good info that will help you decide where and with what to start. The most important thing is to be honest with yourself as to your capabilities and experience with fast, heavy airplanes.

I went the ducted fan route but if you afford it, a turbine is where to start.

Find out who in your area flys turbines and pick their brain.

Don't be afraid to ask questions "'cause ain't none of them dumb!"

If you want a jet that can still fly fast, yet really slow down for landing, a Facet is a great plane

I fly my turbine from 300ft of rough grass, so you should be fine, maybe a bit hard on a retractable model though.

I'm not sure where you fly, HRRC? But, you have 8000' of paved runway not far from you at Fentress NALF. I/we are usually out every weekend with Sat. being the prominent day. Come on out and join us, see what it's all about and ask as many questions as you like. Everything is flown there from trainers to electrics, so bring what you got and have some fun.

Thanks George, i do fly at HRRC and have heard alot about fentress but have yet to visit.
One more question, can you explain what a waiver is and why the apply to only jets?

Hey Jon, I used to be a member at HRRC. Ask Bob Howell, Dave Haywood or Dom about me.

As far as the waiver, it is required by the AMA to show a certain level of understanding of turbine operations and safety along with flight proficiency of higher performance aircraft. It is for insurance purposes. ** This is the reader's digest version ** as there is much more info. than I can write here.
