Default computer software for ECU

Having some difficulty in getting the Telemetry software to talk with the ECU. The EDT works and gets data, and I have made the assignment to the COM1 port. Verified that I did not have a bad cable, based on the schematic for wiring in the manual, and also checked the continuity of the wires. Only thing that still might be a question is the laptop COM1 port, although it said everything is working OK.

Am I missing some step other than wha tis in the directions Using Windows version)?

-plug in computer cable
-select ECU communicator
-turn on ECU
-hit "Page Down"-enter
-type in file name (tried TEST.BIN and TEST1.BIN-the first of which already exists) hit enter
-Shift/Capital D.

Then nothing happens.

Default computer stuff

Steve,

good to hear from ya'. Hope all is well up North.

I'm going to have to pass on this subject unfortunately. Perhaps someone else has some experience with the computer interface. If no one responds, I would call the company and perhaps even Bennie across the pond.

Let me know how you make out with determining the fix to this problem. If you don't have any success I'll do what I can to get an answer for you.

from the land down under,

Buck

Default found my answer

With some persistance, and good old trial and error I found the answer.

Ron @ AMT was helpful in getting me to be sure that I had done all the steps correctly. Seems that it came back to the laptop as being the last thing that was not communicating. Although Windows said the COM1 port was working, and there were no conflicts, I still had no communication. Checked with some of the office computer geeks, and it stumped them for a while. One guy finally said that he found that his Palm Pilot did some wierd stuff to the com ports.

The light finally went on!

I had tried to load up my Palm software on the home laptop to make it synch with the infrared port, but it still captured the COM port and woul dnot let go.

Went in to the Control Panel/System/Device Manager and disabled the IR ports, deleted COM2 which was not used by anything and cleared out all the PALM software and Hotsynch icon in the lower right of the taskbar.

Suddenly we have communication. This software is really neat. I can see just how long a run I have and the total engine run time. This loks like it will be real helpful in diagnosing Kevin's low RPM issue. We will see if he gets full throttel in the air, or if the battery is getting too low.

Thanks for the help, hope this description will help others.

PS, You getting the winter cruise below the equator? Hope to see you at Superman.

Default Cruizin Roun' the World

Steve,

Glad to hear you were able to determine the problem with the laptop interface. In addition, thanks for posting your diagnosis to the site. I'm sure it will be of help for others, should they have similiar problems.

Actually, I'm on what's considered a summer cruise but the temps down here in Darwin are a nice break from the norm. Much like good old San Dog in the fall.

I doubt I'll be back in time to sneak away to Metropolis for a few days, but I've got Dennis (Miss-sip Gang Ring leader) working on Liz in the mean time. LOL

Please Please Please can I play everyone else is going... ha ha

tell the boyz from up North I said hello.

regards,

buck
