ECU REPLACEMENT FOR RAM 1000

Hi,
A friend of mine wishes to replace his old RAM 1000 (auto start) ECU for a brand new one.
What is a good replacement for this ECU now that RAM are no longer in business? Engine works perfectly right. Would appreciate to know the approximate cost (if known) of the new ECU.
I know that there are a few stand alone types like the FADEC, PROJET etc. Would it be necessary to replace existing solenoids, thermocouple or any other sensors (rpm)?

If he needs a new ECU have him contact carlo, he can get him one for the RAM1000 with the latest updates or he can send his to the designer of the ECU and he can upgrade it to the latest revisions.
His name escapes me right now, but I think it is Bob Price. He is on RCU so he may see this post.

You can talk to Andy Low at Electrodynamics, I think he was the guy who built the ECU's in the first place.

Hi R,
How're you doing, mate? I take it that Malta is as beautiful as ever!
Did you manage to sort your RAM 1000 running problems out eventually? I had new innards put in mine by Carlos at RTI after a turbine blade came off, which screwed things up a little - runs perfect now, though!

you can fit a fadec from gaspar, I have on a manual start fadec on a RAM500 and a autostart fadec on a simjet 2300, both are perfect. A mate of mine has fitted a fadec to his Ram 1000 and it is also perfect.

FTE does not carry the 1000 sized turbine. He carries only the 500 and the 750. Bob price can build you a new one or update the older one for you. I had the B01L version on my 500 and he updated to the C02C version for less than 100.00 and it made a night and day difference in the motor starting, or you can contact carlos and he can get them for you.

Hi,
You can use the RAM solenoids with the FADEC, and the thermocouple if the plug is replaced.
The only modification is to replace the RPM pickup under the compressor cover, very easy.
There are many RAMs runing with this ecu in Europe. Contact me off-list for further details.

Hi
First of all I wish to thank you guys for taking the tie to reply to my querry. It is appreciated.
Well....to brief you of on another part of the story which some of you might have experienced and maybe had the time to tackle.
Well this ECU had been in hibernating state for some time and after a few months it was decided to make another run prior to installation. When everything was hooked to the ECU and we tried to prime the engine the solenoid didnt open. At first, we thought that the solenoid got stuck. However, when we hooked it to the receiver the solenoid opened and the fuel could flow easily. When we hooked it again to the ECU it did not open and no fuel could be drawn.
Consequently, it was evident that the ECU was the problem and not the solenoid.
When we changed the position of the fuel solenoid lead to the AUX. pins then it worked but were not sure whether in an emergency situation shut down would work in the AUXiliary position. Prior to hibernating the ECU and engine ran perfectly. Problems only occured after this period of not being used (sysem was fully dismantled).
Prior to committing to the pruchase I would appreciate if anybody has had similar problems and how this problem was solved.

I have never used the fuel solenoid on my Ram 1000x. My ECU is version CO2C and I have more than 100 runs on the turbine with no start or running problems. The system was installed in my new Bobcat about 2 years ago and has never been touched.
Removing the solenoid might save you the cost of a new ECU.

I agree with Al completely, in the installations of my RAM 500 and 1000 I completely eliminated the fuel solenoid. I just use a manual shut off valve in between the pump and my UAT. Try running the motor without the fuel solenoid and see if it works that way.
