Default Possible EMP at Waco, TX ???

Ok, I spoke to a fellow flying buddy of mine and told him about my recent crash of my Super Reaper and also about the high fatality rate of other jets at the recent Greater Southwest jet rally 2004. He commented that the President's "Crawford ranch" or motorcade may have been the cause of the interference that some pilots were experiencing and the possible cause of our crashes.

Does anyone know if EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) devices used by the government for the President would cause any interference with our equipment?

I believe that President Bush may have been at his Crawford ranch over the weekend. Crawford, Texas is only about 15 or 25 miles away from the Hotmac field off Hwy 6.

Curious,

I think President Bush was at a memorial event at the Russian Embassy in DC today. So for atleast Sunday, he's off the hook! Then again, I did see a silvery disk-shaped vehicle flying at miraculous speeds in the distance. I hope them aliens is not up to no good!

Sorry to hear about your Reaper. I saw it go in.

Ron,

Thanks, but even if he wasn't at his ranch on Friday when my Reaper went in, I'm just wondering if they have any equipment setup around the ranch that might cause problems. I attended the event last year, I don't believe there were more then 1 or 2 that went in. But in just talking to some of the pilots, they commented they felt the jet was not responding to control inputs.

Ohio's jet rally was cancelled because of some interference. I'm just trying to figure out if perhaps there is something to look further into at Waco. I had been flying my TX for the past 4 years with out any problems, and my RX for about 2 years without any problems.
I routinely check over all my equipment and do pre-flight checks. Everything checked out ok before the flight and I had full control while on the ground. It was not until it was airborne that I notice the Reaper was not responding to my control input.

This weekend I heard that the interference in Ohio was due to this damn broadband

Actually I believe the last thought process on the interference at Ohio came from some malitious intent and not broadband.

If I have heard wrong (and I pray I have) someone please speak up.

An EMP strong enough to interfere with our models would most likely have fried every computer and electronic device within a few miles of the source. If I remember correctly that sorta thing falls off by the cube of the distance.

For more on the subject of the Waco event see page four on the Greater Soutwest thread.

Steve,

Thanks for the clarification. I was just wondering. I mean who would have thought broadband over powerlines would ever cause enough interference to affect us. Heck, I do fine just to get my Wi-Fi working from one end of my house to the other.

thanks again,

JR

JR,

I was just thinking about the same thing!! Yes, an ECM Tx will knock out anything low powered within a 5 mile radius, and range increases with altitude. The guys at Raytheon (in Waco) got some pretty serious stuff around.

I would discard AF One, the ECM Transmitter in that sucker would have caused a fire on a small R/C receiver, not to mention any UHF/VHF station.

PS, If you had a freq scanner on at the time of possible transmission, it would have failed too. I used to be an ECM tech, so Im pretty sure of what Im saying.
