Bad day, could have been worse
So I'm getting ready to make my first flight of the day.
I startup and everything is fine. As I accelerate to start the taxi, I hear something that is just a little bit off, like a tiny harmonic noise.
It was very small, but still I noticed it and I decided to shut the motor down.
On the shut off the noise became alot louder.
When the starter motor engaged to cool the engine down, I noticed that it spun up way faster than it should have.
So I unplugged the battery and started to inspect the motor from the rear and thats when I saw a crack running all along the turbine wheel. The crack starts from the grind spot for balancing. I'm guessing the overspeed from the starter motor could be from a shot bearing? I'll see if I can get a picture of it.
I'm glad this happened on the ground and not in the air. What a mess that would have been if it came apart at full throttle.

Sorry to hear about your engine, you are a very lucky man, it could have been a whole lot worse in many many ways.
Do you have a picture you could post of it?

Shok, you are truely lucky, but maybe not so much luck as the fact that you understand how your machine works and the proper noise it should make. Many a time did I check and inspect my Jets before take off cause something did not seem or sound right!!!!
What engine was it, you did not mention????

sorry about the problem, but good job at paying attention.
Glad all you lost was a little time instead of your plane and possibly hurting yourself or some bystander .
Is it still in warranty? should be!
nice HEADS UP
