Default Direct Connection F-20 ARC

Do you think that the ARC version of the F-20 would be able to reach speeds of 100+ mph? What engine would be a good match for this plane. I would like to get ready for some DF fun.

Any thoughts are aprreciated.

Ive got one, and want another for a spare, this is an awesome flying plane, Mine has retracts and a YS.45. I have been told that someone radared one with the same engine as I have and it did 125mph. So it is easily over 100MPH, it flies pretty quick! I fly mine off grass even.

Look in the picture post and you will see another view of mine and another one there..

Default DC F-20

Hey John, do you think that DC F-20 with a hot Jett 50 and pipe could reach 150?
Looks like a sleek plane that could come close.

Doesn't Cermark make a .60 size?

K.

You know, your onto something there, I never even thought of hopping up this plane. Hmm, too bad those engines are like $300, trade one for that F18 I have?

I have the DC F20 with a Jett 50, stock muffler which is tuned.
Have radar clocked it at 144 mph.
Good flying airplane.

Default difference...

I believe the DC F-20 has 47" wingspan...Cermark has 56".

144mph...that's good...really good. With a different pipe could you get more or do you think that's the limit, and at what rpm was that at?

Okay, I just ordered the plane, should have it by friday. JohnVH what type of retracts did you but on it?

I am still toying with the engine..
YS .45 Sounds good, what about an OS .61FX?

Should be building my DF by next winter.

It is the muffler that comes with the engine. It's a tuned muffler.
I ran a 9x8 prop and it turns 17,000 plus rpm on the ground.
15% nitro fuel. It has retracts of course.
I haven't tried anything else, it just runs great, even idles nice.

Personally, I think the direct connection looks better, the elevators are in the center of the body, and the tail doesnt have the blocky thing on it. I have not seen or flown a cermark one though. But I can say my D/C flies awesome!

Pete,

You have the exact set up that I want, however, I really thought the F-20 with a Jett .50 would be a little faster than 144 mph. I have a P-51 with a .61 that does about 135 mph!

What kind of retracts are ya using?

Thanks,

Gary

Oh man, I feel like I'm following you around John! Heh Heh, can't belive it took me this long to make it over to this thread. I'll refrain from posting a picture of mine. If you want to see it, follow the link below to my website.

I have a Rossi .45 on mine with a 9x8 prop. Don't have retracts on it. I have another one that's in the kit form that I did buy some Spring Air retracts for. I bought the 302 kit. Even without retracts, it flies between 90 and 100.

I'll agree with what John said. It's a very fun airplane! One of my favorites.

Using a set of elcheapo $25 ones. Don't remember the name, but I straighten them after each landing. Just grab the wheel and pull.

Hi Pilots-
how fast do you think one of those would go if I put a specially prepped OS.91dfx (26,000 rpm) engine on it and a Dynamax fan rotor-thats right-just the fan rotor WITHOUT the shroud-just like you mount the prop?It should go PDQ.

Default F-20 w/DF

The rotor alone would probably be useless without the shroud, but it might work.....you'd probably be better off just using a prop and propping it to turn the 26,000 RPM. Just my .02,

Jack,

I would think there would have to be some MAJOR modifications done to accommodate an OS df motor. IF it could be done, you would have a "missile" on your hands! My guess....200+ mph.

Have you considered a "Regal Eagle"? I personally am not familiar with this, but I've heard good things about it, especially for the price.

AirGar,
been flying DF's since 1979-have scratched alot of homemade stuff and I have run a fan rotor as prop-it DOES work!I have built and flown 2 R.E.'-but they are too slow-but they fly good.
