RE: Skymaster F-15 construction
Got my photos back up!
Here's a quick shot of what I was doing today. I got the other aft fuel tank brackets fabbed and installed, and the Hysol is now curing on the tailpipe mounting pads that I fabbed from ply.

As you can see in the photos, I've opened up the inlet to make room for moving the engine up into it. I used a set of shears to cut out the fiberglass, then a dremel with sanding wheel to clean it up. I'll then use some 5 minute Hysol to attach the two inlet halves together right down the middle.

It was not the ECU, but the ECU battery. The CG was moved to the original location on the main spar overriding the engine. The CG had not been modified. This was something to do with the movement of the engine from the ebll of the pipe, or else there was some type of engine malfunction at takeoff. However, this did not sound nor appear to be the case.

Thanks Lt. Dan for keeping us posted on your progress.
Doc, it's always a sad day when a plane goes in but we all have to keep our heads held high and drive on like you are doing. Please let us know if they find anything with your engine.

On the intial flights the exhaust nozzle sat inside the bellmouth about 3/4 of inch. After the move the enigne was about 3/8 of inch from the end of the nozzle to the face of the bellmouth. Not quite a finger breadth. They all go in sooner or later, I just wish it had been later for the F-15...

Doc
Sorry about the loss of your F15 especially since it had been flying good.
Mine flew terrible and was almost lost last year due to a forward CG error. Since then I have flown it twice and it flies like a dream with the correct cg. The 15 does not like to be nose heavy it will be much slower and hard to maneuver and making an approach is a nightmare.
With regard to your engine it sounds like you got some good and bad info. Having the exhaust nozzle to far into the pipe chokes off the cooling venturi effect and should cause the engine to run hotter. Moving the motor forward should have helped cool the engine better. The thrust probably was unaffected. Did you use your data terminal and see the EGT with the new position and check max rpm the motor was producing?
If so then I am leaning to the CG being moved to far forward and causing your loss.
Either way I am sorry for you and hope you replace it with another Eagle.

RE: Skymaster F-15 construction
Hi lt.dan, i have an f15 ready to go so took it along to a recent jet meet. It is the aileron version and was told by a jet flyer that the ailerons are basically useless on this model. This struck the fear of god into me and the aircraft stayed firmly on the ground. Also he told me the elevato shafts must be pinned to the horns and more than the 2" of throw up and down are needed.
Please help or this model will never get off the ground. thanks.
regards steve
