Hb A-7 (18 size DF?)
#5
Easytiger, let me know how the little A-7 comes out. Do you know how much it is yet? And lastly, if it is .25 size, what motor are they using? I ask because I am in the process of building an F-22 with an OS .21 Buggy motor and a Kress fan. Just finished the vertical and horizontal stabs last night. Unfortunately I have to leave for dang near a month, so I will probably finish it the first part of Oct.. Just trying to keep the weight down is a killer.
On that note, I have a question, to balance the full flying stabs, I would have to place 3oz. of lead in them (each) because of where the pivot rod is located. I have elected to skip the lead and just hope the tailheavy stab won't flutter itself to death. Am I setting myself up for disaster? I just can't see adding 6oz of lead to the tail of this bird in order to get a perfectly balanced stab. Thoughts.

A guy has a bunch of them up on Ebay, starting at $350 or "buy it now" for $400.
They use (and include in the price) the Toki 18 engine with pull start.
No real need to balance the stabs on a plane that small. It probably will not go that fast. Just use a good servo.
The thing is...imagine how much MORE lead it is going to need in the NOSE to balance out after you put six ounces of lead in the tail!
I built an Aeronaut Vampire with a tokifan, and it needed nearly a pound of lead in the nose to balance. It did get airborne, but an extra pound of lead on a plane of this class is totally unacceptable, and the plane needed to be totally stripped apart, re-thought, and re-worked, to eliminate ANY lead for balance.
I recommend you start taping equipment into place and establish how far forward you need everything to be on your F22 before going too much further. Which kit is that, the EAM one?

For what it's worth, I just heard from a friend in Japan that the Corsair does not fly well. Like a small trainer, he said. I have him checking into getting me one for cheap, he knows the president of HPI.
I was really dissapointed in Hotbodies online, the US distributor. They seem to know nothing at all about planes, only the cars they also make.

Thanks for the Info. Easytiger. I left off the lead after all. We'll see how things go. The kit (if you want to call it that) is a prototype from John Craig at Iron bay. I am doing a lot of trial and error on it. When it looks more like a jet I will send pics. Thanks again for the info. especially on the A-7.

I see Tower hobbies are going to sell that Ducted fan A7 that was from the HKG website. Price $494.
Let see does if fly better then the Kyosho F-86, but lets see if Tower hobbies can actually get the A7 in stock.
